Info on Garmin heart rate sensor pls

Recommended Posts

After a little info on Garmin chest strap heart rate sensors please. I’m after something a little more accurate than the info provided by the sensor on my watch as it seems to be all over the place on occasions (though that data could possibly be true 🤔).
My specialist has given me some “boundaries” lol.
There’s one called a Garmin Duel for about $85 and another for $120. Pretty sure they’re both compatible with my Garmin Instinct.
Is the more expensive one any better or more accurate?
Id be using it for running and cycling but can I use either of them swimming also?
Also if anyone is no longer using theirs and wish to sell it please let me know.

The Garmin Dual HRM will broadcast both ANT+ & Bluetooth which simply means if you are using it with a third party app like Zwift or TrainerRoad you can also pair it to your Garmin Instinct. The more expensive version (possibly the HRM-Pro) will add running dynamics plus can store your running or swimming HR data for later upload. Both will offer good accuracy and both can be used for running, cycling and swimming (although swimming with a HR strap is often tricky). One is not more accurate than the other.

Check out DC Rainmakers site (www.dcrainmaker.com) to check out some reviews on both and other HR straps.

I've never found what hr tracking anywhere near as good as a chest strap.  Although the dedicated wrist HRM like from scotche (or whatever their name is) is supposed to be good.  Many find the he tracking even worse when cycling.  I always wear a chest strap when cycling or on an elliptical.  Even the Garmin straps from years ago are still great.

i gave up on the garmin chest straps as just went through them too often, and moved to wahoo tickr. It is compatible with garmin watches, zwift etc.

Yeah, I had earlier one replaced, but have had a hrm-run model for years now with no issues.

Regarding swimming, I use a tri vest when I swim, (mostly as sun protection) but it also helps the strap stay put when pushing off the wall.

I enjoy the run dynamics data, although it just tells me what I already know about my running.

I do worry about the longevity of the Garmin straps. I'll be looking at a wahoo tickr next time around.
