Greyman 675
Looks a lot like the old Challenge Melbourne course. Coffee stop at Black Rock each lap on the bike. The only question everyone should be asking is,. "How cold will the water be?" It was only 15 degrees November 2019. A bit colder than usual.
-H- 1,234
It was at least 17 degrees through November, I started swimming in October and I'm soft.

emski 70
Any chance of this selling out? Keen to weave into travels but can't commit til later in the year..
Naut 717
It maybe my hatred of riding Beach Road shining through, but I find it a pretty uninspiring course. Also lapped courses bore me

If there's good weather conditions and a lot of competitors get PB results, then expect the second year to sell out.

INSANE. Wow 3000! Crazy! I haven't done a long race in a couple of years so have a few race dollars up my sleeve. I've just had 2nd babe so mine is more so training/family time and Feb is too early to make that call. Peter 4,223
I said if they could they would have 3000. I think there will be an influx on day 1-2. Then slow big time on entries.
Peter 4,223
Hmmm it seems Tier One and Tier two both sold out within 2 minutes. Only Tier 3 left and charity spots. If you were thinking, do it now.
Peter 4,223
Quote IRONMAN Oceania This is unprecedented!😲 In less than an hour of entries opening today Tier One sold out, Tier 2 sold out & now.. Tier 3 is already at 50% sold... The response has been astonishing! Entries open for 80 minutes.
Blobby 119
I have no idea on how the tiers are set, but does anyone really know the volume of entries per tier. Easy way to generate demand, set each of the lower tiers to 100 so people think they will miss out. Some years ago I recall you being able to see who had entered as the entries were created. At least then you had visibility.
Peter 4,223
Agree. Probably 100 people in each. But if its a 1200 sell out and tier 3 was 50% gone, it's running low. I'm spewin I had to enter. Really didnt want to do it for a few more months

guinness 22
I'm trying to transfer in from a registration I had for Sunshine Coast, I can't transfer for a week - will that work or will it sell out before that happens? don't want to miss out, but don't want to pay instead of transfer ... I'm the same, but trying to transfer from Western Sydney (if Melbourne doesn't sell within 10 days I'm in, if it sells out I have to transfer to Sunny Coast instead). I don't want to pay for an entry because then the chance of me still being injured when it rolls around will increase exponentially! And at least with Melbourne I don't have to pay for flights and accommodation, so it doesn't really matter if I can't race, whereas Sunny Coast I would lose more $$ than just a race entry. longshot 96
Well it's good to see Melbourne still sports capital. And I like Beach Rd. Million dollar views. Good tarmac. And still the centre of cycling activity, probably the most ridden rode in the world, at least on weekends. But to me the sport is just kidding with the amount of drafting on the flat courses. Especially when it should be solvable relatively easily with tech. No will. No, I don't buy in to the race yourself dont worry about everyone else etc. Especially when the cost is ~ $500 for a local. I just don't get why WTC etc dont bring in tech to sort out the drafting.

I saw much worse drafting at Sunshine Coast than Melbourne. People were not only drafting but doing it in packs 3-4 abreast at times, it was crazy. But they were all way way back from the pointy end so meh who gives a toss...
guinness 22
I'm all the way back from the pointy end too, but I still reckon drafting is cheating. it's just like cutting the course. anyway - its at tier 4 so I handed over the cash. bloody melbourne - sports capital isn't doing me any favours.
Peter 4,223
People that think its flat Need to go and do a 1 lap TT to Mordie return full gas. Its farking Not flat. but the surface is near perfect compared to Geelong, Taupo western Sydney, cairns etc.... Re drafting, just don’t draft yourself. Do your time. Not someone else’s time. Pretty simple.

Pretty simple. Anyone who thinks it is more than slightly lumpy needs to come up to Canberra and do my extended ride to work, what I would class as rolling, ~950m in 50k. Sure, Beach Rd isn't Busso flat, but there is nothing that lets you recover, but then again, there is nothing to recover from. Edited February 6, 2020 by Cape_Horn

Peter 4,223
I'm not saying it's hilly but it's also not flat like the Shep course or Busso. They are honestly pancake flat. Beach road there are sections you need to get out of the seat. Shep and Busso you only do that getting off your bike at the end.
