As much as what happens in mice is applicable to humans; I don't think this is running specific - any exercise that alters the blood stream chemistry. They've focused on platelets but what we need to know is whether endurance distance or sprint distance is smartest 😃

Having done both sprint and Ironman triathlons I’ve the years I’d  suggest it’s a smarter idea to do sprint races
