Thanks FP, it's a great event and definitely deserves a wrap that's for sure! Firstly, thanks to Stem & Clappers for making the effort to catch up before the event.  My head was all over the

I'm in for the 100. 

I did the 50 in 2015. Started the 100 in 2016 but pulled out at the 60km checkpoint.   I was feeling utterly terrible from about 10km.  Was chasing the individual checkpoint cutoffs.  I was weak, lighheaded and could hardly move uphill .  ad to sit own about every 10m on the up bits. 

But I wanted to get throughat least the section up o the overlap with the 50.   Nellies Glen was the worst I have felt in my life (and I had done 100's before). 3 or 4 steps, then rest.  Had the sweepers with me most of it, and felt so bad they were stuck with me. 

Overtook someone at the top, sidled into the CP at the Rec Centre and abandoned.   They tried to convince me to go on, as I looked and sounded fine.   But I knew how I felt on the uphills, knew what was coming, and didn't want to put others in a bad place if I hit my limit in the midle of nowhere at 3am. 

 

Turns out I was very very sick, and still working my way back to health. 

 

So I'm looking to get it done this time!  

 

ETA:  I wasn't planning on doing it, and had been cursing all the FB and IG reminders.  Then in about 4 seconds when I saw the "150 spots left" post, I decided and entered.

UTA 100 is an event that I've been planning to do for a while.

It looks like heaps of people are bailing out and selling their tickets.  But hopefully there will still be one or two other Trannies going around.  I'm not 'racing' this one, I'm just purely out to enjoy the day (and night) out, take a few photos and gain a few memories.  Apparently it's a 28 Hour cut-off and I'm planning on making the most of it.

Anybody wanna catch up before or during the event?

When are you heading up and checking in?

There's always a huge number of entries on the buy and sell page coming into the events. You enter so long ago, and lots of things can happen. 

I've noticed more 50 and 22 entries for sale than 100s though

Keen to catch up Go Easy, sometime Friday I assume? Accommodation fell through so staying a fair bit out of Katoomba.

Heading up Thursday (arriving mid afternoon) and staying the night in Katoomba.  Lunch in Katoomba before heading to Parramatta to stay the night.  Will then drive or train back up to Katoomba for the race start on Saturday morning.  It's not ideal, but since I entered so late most of the decent accommodation options were already taken.

It's amazing how many people are pulling out of each event.  It's been pretty easy (and relatively cheap) to get a start in all the events over the past few weeks.  Considering who owns it now the entry transfer system seems to be working really well.

How's the training going?  It's a beautiful arvo here at the moment, I think I might head out for a little run!

Yeah you can snap up a 100 for a quarter of retail. 

First year, and Aroc are still heavily involved in the actual running. Give it time.......

I'm hearing ya...  I've done more than that but not a whole lot.  I've averaged less than 40k's a week for the past 10 weeks and longest single run was only 18k's which I did this week.  I still reckon you've got as much hope of finishing it as me.

I'm going to go out and enjoy it and whatever happens, happens.  Like I said before we've got 28 hours to get through it... no rush, just need to keep going!!

We better do some running in the first couple of legs. Those cutoffs are a little tighter

Well I just did 11km and don't feel 'too' bad.  It wasn't super quick, but I can still run so the cut-offs shouldn't be such a big worry for me.  My biggest problem will be my feet playing up.  I had Planter Fasciitis several months ago, which I got over thanks to a bit of help from people on here, but now my feet just get really tender when I spend too much time on them.  I get a bruised heel feeling after doing a few K's of downhill running or a fast(ish) Parkrun, and find my feet start aching once I do too much or even if I'm just standing around for a few hours.

I've always had ordinary feet, but the last couple of years I'm doing less and less K's and my feet just seem to keep getting sorer.  Hopefully I'll be right to get through the 100k's but nothing's guaranteed.

hey Go easy and Turtle I hope I don't see you at the finish line, Ive volunteered for the medical area. So I hope all trannies finish in reasonable shape and I don't meet me, but I would be up for a catch up in Katoomba for lunch/coffee on friday we have a volunteers meeting from 16.00 - 18.00

You're a good man Clappers... but I already knew that!

Great to see you're still giving back to the sport.  Is your other half having a run?

It'll be great to catch up, I've just sent you a txt with my number in case you haven't still got it.

I'm hoping to finish in good nick mid morning on Sunday...  It'll be a long event for me!

No, I think this year is my  and only shot at ultra, if I get the points and throw my hat in the UTMB ring, then we'll see. If I don't get the points or don't get drawn in the first two years, then I'm done.  42km on trails is freaking long enough:lol:

Yes, you may see some if them again. But that can be said at most distances. 

Most recent example...... Cam Wurf 2km from the win at IMOz.

Sorry guys, I've been busy training...  :shy:.

Well, maybe not, but I have been busy.  Had a bit of a change in plans, we are now getting to Katoomba tonight and I'll spoil my wife by taking her out to the Trails In Motion movie (no, she's definitely not a runner!).  We'll spend tomorrow morning doing some sight seeing then she'll head to Parramatta for the weekend.  I've now booked a dorm bed at KCC right at the race start for Friday & Saturday nights so will now have a fair bit more time to socialise and take in the atmosphere... looking forward to it!

I've only been here a few hours and I'm already not enjoying the Ironman 'feel' about this event.  I've done a fair bit of Trail Running, and love the sport, but this race seems to be a bit commercial...  I guess I probably should have expected that! 

I did however go to the 'Trails In Motion' trail running movies tonight and they had a couple of technical issues with the screenings.  They were still watchable but it wasn't ideal.  However the organisers just sent us an email saying that tonight's tickets will be fully refunded...  that's impressive and unexpected, well done to those involved.

I dont feel it as particularly different than when I was here In 2015 and 16. 

It is a huge race, and has built massively before Ironman recent bid.  It is massively bigger than nay other trail event ive done. But it is on the Ultra Trail World To. In 2015 it was The North Face. 2016 became UTA. 

The only difference I've noticed is the merchandise - it's less specific for the actual distance event. And the name tee part.

I think Tom and Alina (Aroc) are still running the show.

Well done mate, that was impressive - especially considering your interrupted training and lead in to it.

That was one very tough event!!

Even on limited training I'm used to finishing in the top half of the field of most events - I only just made it through this one!
