KieranR 1,954
Sneak peak before my next blog update in a few days. Am set up at coral bay now, will drive up to Exmouth early tomorrow to pick dad up, my daughters 9th birthday tomorrow so will spend most of day in Exmouth before heading back to coral bay. Another perfect WA sunset tonight. Serviced the car before heading off today and an uneventful drive down apart from the approx 80 wee stops between the kids 😂 1

Our son was like your kids, and anytime we head out on the highway now (he's nearly 17 now) we have great delight in pointing out trees that he's peed behind.

Judd pisses on the left rear wheel every time so no need to GPS mark them haha

KieranR 1,954
Couple pics from today, picked dad up from Exmouth, a sheep was blocking the road into airport funnily enough. Went around to tourquoise bay, did some drift snorkeling with the birthday girl and showed dad around Exmouth. Edited August 17, 2018 by KieranR 1
KieranR 1,954
Blogs playing up so I’ll just update here, currently back in reception after a couple of days out of contact with humans and technology, we have been out at Karijini national park. Sadly dads not as mobile as we had hoped so it’s going to be a bit of a challenge but we will get there. Right now I’m in Tom price while my wife is restocking the fridge at coles, before we hit the Rio Tinto access road and make our way back to Karratha later today. Karijini as always was spectacular. 2

KieranR 1,954
Few more from the trip back from Tom Price today. Back in Karratha to unload the wife and kids, re load with the blokes minimal stuff and head off to Broome tomorrow after doing the school run. One minor hiccup today when a bolt sheared off the awning mount on the Rio Tinto access road, that’s one reason I always bring tools and rope.
KieranR 1,954
And Broome does it again! Still amazing as always. Dads having his first cider so nice his accident two years ago. Good spot to celebrate.

That was one of the first things our guide said to us on our 3 week trip up from Perth to Darwin.
trinube 1,777
It would be good to know the type of road leading to each location - 2wd/4wd, corrugated, sandy, gravel etc.

Back to Karratha from Tom price we took the Rio Tinto access road (you need a permit but I never get it), it’s dirt and sign posted 4wd only as it’s their road, normally it’s really good but yesterday in places it was pretty rough (my awning mount sheared a bolt and the awning dropped meaning a roadside repair). Karratha to Broome is all national highway bitumen and is the best sealed road in Australia I reckon, have been saying it for years, a few little patches at Roebuck plains that are under repair after this years floods but all good. Tomorrow we head to Cape Leveque which is my favourite place on the Dampier Peninsula, it’s 220km north of Broome, shit sealed road for a bit, then it’s dirt sand gravel for close to 100km and can be absolutely terrible in previous trips before a bit more bitumen around the beagle Bay Area before sand into kooljaman (which is cape leveque) so I suggest 4wd only to cape leveque, I have seen plenty of broken 4wds on this road, cattle strikes are very common also. 4 eggs broke on the internal Karijini road on Sunday

KieranR 1,954
Pays to let the tyre pressure down! Worst I’ve seen the cape leveque road! Eyes are still rattling
KieranR 1,954
Church at beagle bay. It’s a beauty, got pics inside years ago but now they ask not to
KieranR 1,954
Cape leveque, worst condition I’ve seen this road in. Sand was severely corrugated, suitable for 4wd only. I’ll spare you the pic of my white arse when I went for a dip in my bday suit 😂

ComfortablyNumb 1,119
Mate I took a Mazda 2 over Old Dunstan Rd in NZ after heaps of rain in my never ending quest for trout and it looked nearly as bad as that in places. Bloody good car a little Mazda 2...though it was a hire car & I had the full insurance cover option You going to chase any fish up there? Bara?
KieranR 1,954
This was the good bit of road. Might go chase a Barra or two at a spot I have had succes at before on the Fitzroy river. Will see how we go, dads a bit clumsy and might fall in and be croc bait 😂😂
Ex-Hasbeen 8,122
Looks like what we used to drive on to some of our bush sites. This is more my stuff lately. White sand at the beach. Notice the reflection of the permit on the windscreen. The car was only 48 hours old at that point, so hadn't stuck it on yet.

KieranR 1,954
Nah no crocs at Karijini. Currently driving round all the aboriginal communities trying to find a special fuse or circuit breaker..........nothing around up here at all, lost both fridges during the night when the redarc charger I have popped a fuse, I’ve managed to save the fridge by changing it over to run off the aux battery under the bonnet, the freezer I’m flat out of luck until the local pilot from Broome who has offered to grab a couple of them for me arrives up here at 1330, hopefully the stuff in the freezer will still be ok. Time will tell. I trouble shooted all my wiring and then checked with the guys at redarc over the phone and it’s all how it’s supposed to be and is giving correct readings on my multi meter, they think maybe the fuse was faulty and not rated correctly. Oh well now I just sit tight and wait for the plane to arrive, then I can re connect both AGM in the back get fridges back up on them. Bit of a bugger but that’s how it rolls up here.

KieranR 1,954
Well we sure have been on an adventure, we are now back in Broome for two nights of speedway, first time in 15 years for dad, I drove 1100 km today from elquestro, we were a bit late getting here because I picked up water in my diesel in both my primary and secondary filters so decided to drop as much fuel as I could on the side of the road and refuel with my Jerries, I’ll write more later but here’s some pics of the last 10 or so days. *warning* A couple of budgy smuggler pics below.
