  2. Hi all. Relatively new here. I'm looking for any first time turbo recommendations. Don't really have any preferences between fluid/mag/direct etc. Would welcome any recommendations/advice from users. Looking at a price limit of around $400-500 for a first time which probably puts the direct drives out of budget. Thanks guys

  4. As triathletes we often get the mickey taken out or us from cyclists for a variety of reasons. The reliant on numbers, compression socks, jumping on every new bandwagon and on it goes. I've always thought fight fire with fire, and hit cycling back, and to be fair there is a good argument to suggest cycling and cheating are lifelong bedfellows. The nature of the sport of cycling lends itself to it. the person who saves the most watts wins and takes the glory at the last moment. Where as triathlon came out of a test to see who was the fittest. Sure we miss out on some of the bravery, tactic

  6. So late last year a car swerved close to me and his passenger threw liquid over me out the window while TT-ing on beach rd. . I nearly came off and was a little shaken up. Got the number plate, reported it and kept... on.... hassling the cops about it. Long story short, (several months later) I get an email that says something other than "we're working on it" - It seems that the scummy driver gave up his scummy mate. $600 fine and a stern talking to. Obviously I'd prefer they both get put in the stocks... but happy that if you keep pushing, the system will eventually work. Not sur

  8. What are the new rules? Minimum passing distance for motorists From 7 April 2014, by law, motorists must stay wider of the rider by giving: • a minimum of 1 metre when passing cyclists in a 60km/h or less speed zone; and • 1.5 metres where the speed limit is over 60km/h. From this date motorists can cross centre lines (including double unbroken centre lines), straddle lane-lines and drive on painted islands to pass cyclists, provided the driver has a clear view of any approaching traffic and it is safe to do so. These new road rules will initially be trialled over two years. This law

Full details http://dubaitour.com/index.php I will be heading out to get some pics of at least two stages including the TT and hopefully making it up to Hatta for the finish.
  10. A couple of weeks ago I was riding to work at 7.30AM on a normally very quiet backroad of Camden when a mercedes M class SUV with a very distinctive licence plate came flying past me. I was riding on the white line, the car made no attempt to give me any room the wing mirror missed my head by a couple of cm, the car didn't even notice I was there, I stuggled to control the bike as there was a gravel ditch on the left side.Ive been riding to work for over 15 years and have developed a pretty thick skin but even I was a bit shaken up. Anyway last night we were invited to a christmas party by som

    I have wind

So does anyone else that went for a ride in Melbourne this morning. Great conditions, except of the massive wind gusts coming at you from all points of the compass. Nearly got blown into the guard rail on a descent. Glad I wasn't on Beach Road. How's conditions elsewhere in the country?

    Not Normal?

Has anyone downloaded and read "Not Normal? An insight into doping and the 21 biggest riders from LeMond to Armstrong to Evans" ? http://www.joomag.com/magazine/alternativ-editions-not-normal/0269766001370594539 The book examines mountain rides and labels performances across an index of suspicion versus believability. They do this by estimating the power for each climb. I am wondering if it is a interesting read.
  14. Just bought a Power2max PM from the Aust/New Zealand distributor, cost under a grand took 4 days to be delivered (1/2 day and pretty easy to install) and I've been using it for a week now. The PM is excellent although I have only used it half a dozen times. I wanted to get crank based pm and only looked seriously at this one after the good review it got from DC Rainmaker. the guys at http://www.bikecycle.co.nz/ were fantastic, called them around 3 times checking various things out then emailed around 3/4 times etc no problems, really know thier stuff. Now I have the first loads
  15. Hey guys and girls, Well I've bitten the bullet and booked in for surgery first week of may on my knee minor clean up to remove a chondral flap and inject Stem cells. Doc says other than the injury that cartridge and meniscus in my knee is fantastic. I have a trip booked to follow the last two weeks of the TDF. Which gives me about 9 weeks to recover. The doc thinks I will be sweet. But I wanted to know how long after you had a scope you were back on the bike and how long till you were back in full action. Clydesdale.
  16. Anybody else watch the Bike lane on cyclingtips? I quite enjoy it and really enjoy Scott McGrory's input for some experienced input and a balanced view without any ego, hopefully he sticks around in this commentary gig for a while. Strange for a cyclist! http://cyclingtips.c...ta-to-burritos/
  17. Does anybody know whether there is a live tracker, or some way of following the Nationals that kick off today. The U23 Mens ITT is currently on, with both the Women's & the Elite Men's ITT later today.
  18. I need a CC guru to explain a few things... Is there a way to get an Elite Cycling Licence without joining a CC? As far as I can tell fFast (I'm from Brisbane) you can join to get the licence however it allows you the freedom to race whenever and where ever you want (provided the race isn't for other CC members only) ... is this right? I would like to start racing, but I want to continue to ride with my local tri club so the benefits of club rides wouldn't be much use to me and racing would be limited to 4-5 local crits races a year. One small thing I'm not sure about, how do I kno

  20. Hi Guys and Girls, Ive searched what I can on the net and on the forum for info on this and have been struggling to find anything. So hopefully someone on here will be able to help. I'm off to the physio this afternoon as well. Went for my usual long ride on Sat 120km with hills. Been in full training since May so have been feeling really good. About 70km in I started to get a cramp like feeling/ sharp pain in the top of the middle of my left calf, on upward lift of the pedalling motion. I had no choice but to put up with it till I got home( out in the middle of no where) so continued

  22. Roxxii mentioned the Frugal Rouleur website (http://frugalrouleur.com/) a while ago and I used it ever since for a quick check on prices across the different online stores. I've just noticed they now have an app as well so if you have an iPhone you can download it at http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/frugal-rouleur/id528241723?mt=8 PS: I have no affiliation with any of this stuff, this is just a public service announcement.
  23. $10 bucks if you have your Cycling Australia Gold license or $30 for a day license + $10 race entry. Who's in, what grade etc? 24. Guys/girls, With the tri season now over and I'm well into recovery month. Been doing a bit of planning on how to improve my hill climbing. From now until November I'll do one long ride a week between 100 - 150km. Normally include a few 7-10km climbs with gradient of say 5% or so. For those in Melb , Kinglake, the 1 in 20 ect. I'm currently 105kgs and aim to get down to 95-99 ish. So that should help. Anyway to my question. Do you think I am better to train by doing these hill repeats several times or continue with my long rides as I have. I have seen great improvement in the last year
