nope. Nothing since 2 from Adelaide airport travellers in March last year. Closest geographically would be the Shep escape from Melbourne. Complacency is rife considering there are no movement restrictions in Vic, and with holidays, we have people here from everywhere. We also have daily sheningans dealing with the border closure on the Bridge.

Up here in Regional Vic, it's aorund 60% reckon.

And now a third plane with a positive, and another load of players in lockdown. What a debacle. Whoever thought this was a good idea should be sent overseas and left there. Positive coronavirus test result on third Australian Open charter flight sends more players into quarantine http://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-01-17/australian-open-tennis-players-isolating-in-melbourne-covid/13064616

Now a third positive from the LA flight
-
As are most of us. Although outraged seems a better word to describe it

With some players not coming, some not able to come because they tested positive, and now a whole lot unable to train for 14 days, its going to be a debacle of an Open!

Danny boy must be pissing his pants

Yep, another passenger but not a player. So another plane load of players in hard 14 day quarantine with no outings. Melbourne will run out of treadmills and spin bikes soon https://www.9news.com.au/national/australian-open-coronavirus-second-charter-flight-records-positive-covid19-case/365e6652-6816-4be5-9c9b-85e94f6f6d20?ocid=Social-9News

maybe the charter flight is slower then? smaller plane? I flew LA to Sydney many times and im fairly sure it wasnt 18 hrs (it was 15 years ago though, when I lived in California). Melbs is only a little further.

A spokesperson for COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria said the infections were in an aircrew member and an Australian Open participant who was not a player who have both been transferred to a “health hotel”. “The passenger tested negative to his pre-departure test,” the spokesperson said. “The aircrew member and the passenger have been interviewed and transferred to a health hotel as per normal processes for positive cases. “All remaining 66 passengers on the flight have been determined to be close contacts. Any players and support people will not be able to leave quarantine to attend

So they were all tested before they boarded and could only board if negative. Flight was from LA. Whats that, 14 hours? Test positive on arrival. That is some damn timing.......
-
Woohoo! Good stuff

Or, in some cases, told you have to do another 14 days because someone else in the hotel caught it?

For sure. To date, we've been fortunate - whether by luck or just the way nature works. There have been many jump to humans - but to date have either been contagious but not too bad (like this), or very bad but not very contagious and easily controlled (ie, so bad it kills the host before it spreads too far,. Like ebola, bird flu, swine flu, the bat one (in qld at the moment), the horse one. Things that are really bad for other animals don't seem to be too bad for us as our biology is different in important ways. But as you said, it's only a matter of time,

Wasnt this covered waaaay back in the early days when they detected it in zoo lions or tigers or something? Then domestic cats. Then mink and such. Denmark killed off their entire mink farms didn't they? I mean it already jumped species when it came to us. Like most of these things.

I like the new BCF one, even though it seemed to generate a bit of controversy. It had a guy eating a bat, references as the reason we are all satying at home

So, these vaccines........ GIven their volatility for appropriate temperature control (especially the ultra cold one), and the level of conspiracy nutters in society, coupled with the scary number of people who think it's hoax, the :"great reset" etc....... I'm a bit worried whether any of those nutters could be the docs/pharmacists in charge of the vaccines. If they get left out, they become inactive. Many, many, many people could be injected with somehting useless, unbenownst to everyone. There's lready been one case in the US where a pharmacist left them out of the fr

Qld - 0 Vic - 0 NSW - 3 Thsi superspreading variety, and the super spreading events are turning into a fzzr, which is good. But if they keep going gangbusters it will end up like the boy who cried wolf, I fear. People may never panic-buy again

Saw this thru FB today https://www.triathlete.com/culture/news/judge-rules-in-favor-of-ironman-in-lawsuit-over-refunds/ Judge Rules in Favor of Ironman in Lawsuit Over Refunds The U.S. District judge ruled Ironman's "no refunds" clause was fair and reasonable. JANUARY 8, 2021 KELLY O'MARA Yesterday, U.S. District Judge Tom Barber granted Ironman’s request for a summary judgement in a proposed class action lawsuit over the lack of refunds for races canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Florida judge ruled that the “no refund” clause athletes agree to

I heard several versions just listening to the Qld premier press conference. Started off saying the person had an extremely low risk as they were released as they had been symptom free and so released from HQ. Said the person wasn't tested on leaving HQ - but was symptom free and was 10 days after their positive test. Then they said she was tested as negative when left hotel quarantine in Vic, but tested positive when arrived in Brisbane. HQ was under the Vic protocols, but she then discussed the Qld HQ protocols of not testing on departure. So what is Qld protoco
