Port Macquarie Power Numbers

Recommended Posts

So Covid had me thinking, I had been toying with the idea of doing another IM soon and I reckon Port Mac next year looks the go so I have a year to train.  I work better if I have goals so I am trying to work out an initial goal power on the bike.

If people that have done port mac can post details of weight, time and power so I know where I might sit that would be great!

Geez, 24 seconds difference. That’s consistency.

That was just from Garmin

Official Results not as close but still pretty consistent.

2018

60kg

5:52:54

Average power 149

Normalized power 174

Not sure if this would help at all. I pretty much struggled on the second lap and soft pedalled most of the way after that.

If everyone listed their w/kg I wouldn't have to think as much 🙄

I suppose w/kg is useful for port as it has some hills. For a flat course it would be a lot less relevant.

2019 ag 50-54

avg pwr = 168, np=179

2017 exactly same numbers within 5w, times 10min less as 2017 had no wind(2019 bit windy)

Its not just how much power you can push, its also how you interpret the 12m rule... there a lot of guys with low power and good IM splits on the bike.

I think Port has least drafting actually with the hills and mixed terrain making it hard to bunch up.

I thought we already established. It’s only the flat races in the USA that I did that had drafting.

Busso & Port Mac have fixed all drafting issues with a change to the bike course

There is a huge amount of information from members here and there is a range of everything from that data including riding techniques. To help you make your decisions, its probably worth also having a look and a play with Best Bike Splits.
