VR3 Garmin Stuff up

Recommended Posts

I am so annoyed. I did the 20k time trial at the track yesterday for VR3 and my speed was all over the place. When I finished I looked at my average speed and it didn't seem right. I figured maybe I was just tired and so didn't perform well. But then I saw another girl's result who I was on the track at the same time with. We started and finished around the same time but I passed her twice. Her time is faster than mine which means I obviously did too many laps . check out the graph of my speed throughout. Any ideas what went wrong? This has never happen before.

That speed graph looks real dodgy. I wouldn't expect to see it so spiky, with drops to 18km/h every few seconds.

What do your other graphs look like when you get your expected result?

Weird looking data.

Are you using a speed sensor or power meter, or purely GPS?

Did you make sure to have a GPS signal before starting?

I wouldnt be concerned. Heaps of people will be doing dodgies in this VR# races. Just know that you did the work. Use it as a motivator more than anything else.

Yes, that's about all it ended up being with the lack of any standards. There were people doing 58 Kph for the bike, riding in zwift group rides.

The first was motivating but after that seemed to be no more point than logging on strava

Yep agree Barry.  If you are looking at results you shouldn’t.
I did some cross references a few weeks back and some people were going 4 times faster than they do when outside in real races.

Yeah this could be it. I find that with the new speed sensor that goes around the wheel hub, rather than the old one that goes on the chain stay - the Garmin pauses for a few seconds every now and then even when still moving. But not to the extent of having to do an extra lap though.

Is this like losing at a pretend computer game?

PM and S&C sensor. Nothing different to a normal day.

I am pretty sure I had GPS. I didn't look at it and wait but normally it's no problem

I was comparing to a friend though. So that sucks!

That looks much better. Whilst the speed is still a little bumpy, it's only dropping a little. Throw the result the other day away & try it again. If it does the same thing, then you've got an issue with the device.

Cranky, it's a VR competition! You can't do it outside in the real world with friends 😮 Your head unit has applied the appropriate penalty :)

The bumps in this one are due to the slight hill in the track and then there's the 2 rest breaks.

Fixed it.  Turned off my speed and cadence sensor, 12km in.

Should've thought of this earlier!!!

My watch was doing the same, so I knew it wasn't the head unit.
