Brisbane open water swimming

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I would like to swim open water somewhere around Brisbane (up to 1.5 h driving to all directions). I wouldn't preferably like to be eaten by sharks, stung by poisonous jelly fish, drown by huge waves etc. Is there an area that you may recommend? If it is not in the sea, perhaps in a lake or reservoir?

Thanks in advance

Vassilis

Enoggera Dam is excellent. It's actually a 4km loop from the beach to the far end via the buoys, and shorter courses if you wish. Very easy access to the water, calm, and no biteys (other than the occasional angry catfish or eel).

That will get you to Noosa on a good day.
That’s a good option.
Mooloolaba is also good 99% of the time.
South, you could get to Kingscliff.
Evandale/Home of the Arts Lake for non ocean based.

Other options:

Sutton’s Beach to Scott’s Point (Redcliffe) and back, there are often swimmers there on weekend mornings. You can stay reasonably close to shore

‘Gold Coast Open Water Swimming Club’ (you don’t need to be a member) swim Saturdays and ‘Burleigh Ocean Social Swim’ swim Sundays, each has their own Facebook group that has the details of the swims.

No guarantees as to the behaviour of the local sea life.

I figured the "No Jellyfish" requirement ruled out the peninsula :)

Thanks everyone for your input. I will try all of them, one at a time, and see which one is more suitable for my skill.

Cheers

Grimsey open water swim sessions on Sundays if you want a group to swim with. Google for more info.
