roxii 6,472 Report post Posted October 14 Tyno, a bloke from our workplace (a tradie) got a similar warning. he went Lo tech and hard work. They start work at 6am so he gets out of bed at 2.30 am on work days and walks for a few hours and has gradually improved his eating as well. he is down 30 kgs in 30 weeks so far and recons he feels absolutely fantastic and Dr said he has dodged going on insulin. I know that method may not be for everyone but for him it was an easy, Lo tech option, and is working great for him. I actually suggested work incentivise him by giving him a gift voucher to buy some new clothes that fit him as a bit of a reward as no doubt he will be a better healthier employee going forward.

Had the same issue several years ago. Apart from additional exercise my Doc suggested that I eat half an Avocado several days a week. With some clever, effective exercises it seemed to work ok and I not only avoided going on blood pressure meds, I also started enjoying my racing again and got some good results. Avocado... Get into it!

It probably won't help your total cholesterol but it should fix the good/bad ratio and reduce your triglycerides and blood sugar. HFLC is gradually being recognised as the best preventative treatment for diabetes.
MissJess 675 Report post Posted October 14 (edited) I had the same in early 2013. Had the prick test, which then was a fasting blood, then the glucose drink test. Not high enough for type 2, but well on the way there. Triathlon (and lower carbs) saved me I guess, a year later I was back to normal. Took until the end of 2015 to realise I should drop the kilos. Bored@work 3,684 Report post Posted October 14 Up to 84.8kg working 80hr weeks is killing me. I’m escorting trades, so basically doing nothing. The boredom, soo. Becomes snacking. Then I’m stuffed when I get home / haven’t seen the girls etc so can’t be stuffed training. The cash is helping pay for our Kokoda trip so I’ll keep doing the hours until it’s paid off. You were ~85kg a few years ago and now you are 120kg. You know how you got here, and you have seen a nutritionist before so have the knowledge to get back there. You already on high BP medication, and now you are putting more bullets in the chamber and pulling the trigger over and over, You need to unload a few of those bullets somehow.. But you need to want to do it. If you cant find the reason to do it then it will be hard to get anywhere so that needs to be the first step. If being in the ground isn't enough motivation for you, what about family/wife etc? Can you find some motivation in them... Good luck PS: I agree with the avocado and LCHF stuff as it has worked for me (115kg -> 88) but that is a different topic...

Bored@work 3,684 Report post Posted October 15 Back on the bike last night. Woke up this morning and made lunch for the first time in 3 months. Disconnected the company credit card from Uber eats. Trying to get my mojo back. Struggling to wake up in the morning and train ATM. I have had one day off work in the last month, so fatigue is starting to get to me. Totally cliche but take it one day at a time. Or even one meal at a time. The important thing is that you recognize that perfection is not achievable/sustainable so either dont aim for it in the first place, or dont let a failure derail yourself. If you eat a bad meal then put it in the rearview mirror and forget it, look toward and plan your next healthier meal rather than saying oh well i have had some cake so i might as well have pizza and beer for dinner and start again tomorrow.. tomorrow never comes

IronJimbo 995 Report post Posted October 17 I read a fantastic book over the weekend called 'atomic habits' - it's full of great techniques for building on good habits and breaking bad ones which make a lot of sense. If anyone else is having trouble in this regard you might want to check it out, given that food habits are such a big part of weight management. Highly recommended

I suppose only 2 meals yesterday, saying no to the 2 blocks of chocolate in the fridge, and working hard in the yard from 6am till 5:30pm with only 1 break long enough to make bacon & eggs for lunch is what helped in the end.
