Too early in WA. I think Rangers have started "taking out" the regular nuisance maggies.

I've been intentionally trying to ensure I am familiar and non-threatening to the local magpies I encounter on my regular commute. I wish them all a good morning and happy day as I ride past.

Will soon see if my efforts have been successful or in vain.

I got done on a run at Carindale the other afternoon but it was a butcher bird, not a magpie. Scared the crap out of me.

My enemy clocked me running round the Artarmon reserve the other day. He sat on top of the pavilion and just glared... if I was on a bike he would have had at me I'm sure!

No magpies yet but I regularly get a pee wee tap me on the head coming past the old Woolies car park near the wharf at Port. I never remember him/her earlier until they get me.

And so it begins....

"Get out of it"?

What I appear to yell is "G'way" in a very thick Irish Accent

I was given a stern talking to by a duck as I rode past him and his mate yesterday.

Terrifying.

CN's post is funny because it's not me.

Did you crop the swearing out?

Katz, ducks are an issue in Brissie too, most bike paths run near creeks.

There was a time when they almost made lane 8 at Valley pool unusable for a bit too :D

If it walks like a duck and it talks like a duck...

No, incredibly I did not swear!

Was only doing an easy-moderate ride on the easy parts of the track as I'm recovering from a bad cold.  All was going well keeping the HR down until that little focker started up & HR went thru the roof.  Nearly crashed too @ 1:02 trying to fend it off while staying upright.

The track is as dry as a dead dingos donga atm, and incredibly sketchy.  Think I need to drop my tyre pressures below 25psi.

Do you know where? The one in the park on the hill just past Greenwood Station (heading into the city) is a bugger and scares the bejeezus out of me. .

I got hit for the first time today. Persistent attacks

if it was on my regular ride and in NZ the solution would solve itself fairly quickly.

And this is why I don't ride at this time of year. Call me a pansy but it's just not worth an accidental swerve into a car/object/etc.

And what do we see on the 10 News coverage.  A triathlete riding his bike past the magpie while looking at his phone, just to add to our loved persona 🙄

I have a really nice magpie near me at Marchant Park at Aspley. It will only give 2 quick 'how do you do's' to cyclists along the bike path and even then it is within 10 metres of its nest and doesnt touch their heads.  It doesn't touch runners.

And provided people aren't jerks to it, that's probably all it will ever do. Problem occurs when people are jerks and then the maggies escalate their own behaviour in response.
