Yep. Maybe they should've trained.

what? you mean they shouldn't be able to just swim 4km, ride 180 and run a marathon just because they felt the urge... those distances dont sound THAT far...

I honestly don't understand people that enter Ironman's and can't swim thinking, oh the wetsuit will keep me afloat.

Another reason why you should have to do at least one Half Ironman before being ACCEPTED to do a FULL.

Personally, I'd be daunted by the no wetsuit swim. Not because I can't swim and need it to stay afloat, but because I am a slow swimmer and it allows me to swim faster.

But yes, being a better swimmer would certainly make life easier.

If someone is taking longer than 2 hours to swim 3.8k with a wetsuit they need to swim more and forget about running completely.

I swim slightly faster in a wetsuit but not to and degree that would give me any concern if I didn't wear one. I think I did my first 4yrs of tri without a wetsuit at all.

One advantage of a wetsuit can be if you get pushes under, you legs pop back up but Roth is wave start anyway, so the biff would be minimal.  It's in a canal, it's hard to imagine a friendlier swim for non wetsuit.

Another thing, most folks in northern Europe have trained all winter in a pool as OWS venues don't usually open until early May.  They have to be more used to swimming without a wetsuit, than with one.

Thankfully, for me it does not take more than 2 hours to do 3.8ks. :angel_not:

Was entered but pulled the pin a few months ago for several reasons. Over here on holidays anyway and went to the expo today. Weather is going to be 32 on Saturday but dropping to 21 on Sunday for the race. Pretty good conditions right now and definitely looking like no wetties.

Who’s racing in the pro field? Lots of the big hitters have all done an Iron distance race in the past month.

The new qualification system for Kona now kinda dictates the athletes must race all year round, all around the world to pick up a spot. Does this change remove the big A listers from this race?

Its a challenge race also.... so no Kona spots I am guessing.

Would like to see Wurf really give it a crack.

Not of bad field. Some cracking runners will make it exciting. Will Wurf finally crack the 3hr mark because I count 5 male competitors who ran sub 3 in Kona last year.

Cam has gone sub 3 multiple times now.

He ran a 2.50 at Port.

Sounds like Wurf is testing himself in readiness for Kona..... isn't this like his 3rd Ironman in about 2 months...... after this he will be resting for Kona one would think.

Wetsuit legal for age groupers, not for pros.

My German is not good and I’m keen to watch the ride and run, their website as far As I can see is only streaming in German.  Can anyone provide a link to the live stream that is in English?

Look at Svensons tri bars bounce around. This would terrify me if I was riding extensions this long in Australia 😂

When I first saw that, I thought they were loose.

Nah, ladies and gentleman, we are on the precipice of 2 new frontiers.

1. Higher vertical compliance when your bars bounce around. Comfort improved.

2. As you bounce down, this allows your whole body to get over the dead spot of your spin, as your bounce upward, it opens the hip up in the power phase. It’s called ‘whole body spin dynamics’.

4% improvement in efficiency and time.

Now throw a f#@k tonne of money at me

Did I hear right when they said they only had 2 cameras out there?

No wonder they aren't showing much of different parts of the race

I’m watching on tv over here and the coverage is a bit different to the web site. Tv is only in German so we have the web site for the English commentary. Coverage has been great so far.

Conditions are perfect. Rain stopped just as the race started, cool conditions and zero wind. The rain has kept the crowds away but solar is starting to get busy now.  We are staying right on the run course so will go out when they start to come through.

Wurf is losing time on the bike. Interesting.

Seems to holding 4 minutes - give or take 15 seconds - on the 3 Andies at each time check. Definitely not the dominant uber biker from last year. Better than last week, but a different racer. Possibly because he’s still focusing on logging 120km+ run weeks. Swim and bike seems softer.

Reports that Cam is looking crook on course. He’s dropped 1,20 over the past 35km.
