I vollied at race check in and was happy. Good snack and drink pack, sunnies, buff. Even hand packed fruit cake.

Seemed good to me, but dont know what happened before.

But i was disappointed in the gear.

The event tee is the same for the distances.

Has the year only. And a typo clearly.

They have already run out of the UTA22 shirts with the competitors names on it!

How is the free shirt sizing? At Port the kids seemed to get the adult sizes and the 70.3ers got the kids sizes!

Sizing seems about as funky as every other event.

Seems a big jump L to XL. Some seem very small. A few unhappy campers at check In. But it happens everywhere.

I heard the volunteers arent being looked after like they were with AROC.

Someone from work was saying that they used to give the sweeps accommodation and a free entry for the year after.

Neither are offered anymore.

I heard it was volunteers that were up there for most of the preperation as well as the weekend & sweeps.

Both are in fact true. It's a shame if they're not doing this anymore. There's really no excuse not to do it. It doesn't cost you anything to throw a few free entries...

Turts trucking along, tracker prediction has her making the next timing point in time, but looks like it will be tight at Fairmont Resort.

If I'm reading it right.

Actually, she might come into Katoomba aquatic centre  now-ish

(And she did apparently.)

20 minute predicted cushion on the next point.

she did say she was gunna get to know the sweeps :D

Go Turts!

20 minutes isn't much of buffer with over a marathon remaining and over 1000 metres of climbing in the last 13 km.

On the bright side, sweeps are pretty good at getting people home. If she can do it, they'll be invaluable in keeping her on track.

Sewerage treatment plant time check ~6 km to go just after 10:00.

Just under 2 hours to get it done.

Is there any allowance for finish time because she was last wave?

Thanks folks! It was brutal.

I was.comfortable.coming out of the aquatic centre, but things went south up Laura forest.

Slid in and out of Fairmont with seconds to spare, and made friends with the sweeps.

Kept trucking to CP5, and with a few minutes to spare they loaded me up and kicked me out with the last 3 sweeps.

Right on the limit at the helipad, but they are so supportive they let me keep going.  They knew i wanted it and was digging deep.

Final time of 28:32.

I'm shattered. That climb up Furber at the end was so soooooo  bad

That is the allowance.

But if u make all the intermediate points and are gritting it out, you get a time and a medal and a towel, as everyone who finishes. Just not UTMB points.

Tom and Alina run an awesome event. So inclusive and supportive of the athletes and supporters

The battery on my 935 didn't last the distance, so I guess it never happened?

I put a bit of juice in it at CP4, but after that the chase was on, so I wasnt stopping to sort out the little battery pack I had.

Good thing there's a finish video to prove it! But no strava ( not that i do it)

Is this a running race?

Bit of everything.

Running, walking, sitting, eating, drinking. And crawling.

Non-discriminatory participation event.

I thought it was a swimming race. ;)

There was some mud, some creeks, and a bit of rain. But not deep enough to have to swim. Sorry .

But we did go past some amazing waterfalls with awesome pools you could have a dip in. You should give it a crack. Or have you already won it?

Fantastic Effort - very proud of you.

You also picked up the Greyman Award - choice.

Ah gotcha. Totally pulled that off. But hopefully it doesn't mean a change in venue!

Crawling up Furber steps. Pic from sweep SJ!

Be thankful you no longer have to climb Kedumba Walls late in the race. It's tough enough at the end of Mt Solitary.

Congrats, Turts, on an epic run.

BTW, who were your sweeps?

Steve and Co on 4 to 5, then SJ (Sarah Jane Marshall)  Bec (Rebecca Smirh)  and another fella for the life of me can't remember his name just now, on 5 to finish.

I feel so bad I can't remember Steve's partners name, or the tall young fellow to the finish. But my mind wasnt in top shape.

They're all on the pic tho!

That used to be a 7-8km climb to CP5 when I did that race. If you’ve gone through it you will remember, I think it took me over 2:30hrs to get through that bit
