If AOC really is the future of the Democrats, they are well and truly f*cked

This is someone who wants to replace the airline industry with fast trains, and thinks the government should provide for people who are unwilling to work...

IMO she's a classic example of someone who's ambition and confidence far outweighs her actual knowledge and ability.

Yay!

Anyhoo, I think Hawaii's Democratic governor had the best and most obvious response to AOC's call to replace all air travel with fast trains...

Agreed. Young and exuberant, but inexperienced and unaware of how the world actually works. She reminds me of the debaters at school who were strong on bizarre ideas .... then went into a life of academia.

Hawaii isn’t America.

Won't be for long with global warming!  It'll either sink under a rising ocean or the volcanoes will blow it to kingdom come!

Anyone who took Hawaii to be included in a discussion on replacing air travel with trains is either stupid, or just looking for an argument.

How about California, which has just shelved plans to spend billions on a high speed rail link between LA and SF because they realised that people would still prefer to fly for about eighty bucks

Then why not use that rather than a silly statement about Hawaii?

Triathletes are silly.

Makes sense I suppose. :)

The statement about Hawaii was made by Hawaii's Democratic Governor

In any case, is my reference to California less valid because I referred to Hawaii first?

AJ and RH have a fair amount of followers.  That might not have been an insult.

Probably the ridiculous one that served no purpose but to try to incite argument, followed up by the post that may have made sense if you'd made that first.

In Kona (I was spectating ... they haven't lowered their standards that much) I had a discussion with a teacher from Wisconsin who thought that Obama was a commie and that she was having an "overseas holiday". And she teaches!

My favourite one from my mate who overhears an American woman ask out loud while filling in the immigration forms "it says country of origin, do I put Texas or America?" 😂

And a yes from you to Peter's comment by the looks.

Me commenting that your second argument, "may have made sense if you'd made it first" is what is termed a "response".

So if you'd like to lay out the full references behind your second statement, rather than give it as your opinion piece, it may graduate to "does make sense".

Referring to the fact that I've made a comment is not the same as responding to the substance of the comment itself

It's almost as if you're posting with no purpose but to try to incite argument

What substance? That they realised people would prefer to fly for about $80? Is that the real reason? Or is it your opinion? I would certainly prefer to spend a shorter time getting on a train to travel a couple hours than go through what is sometimes a nightmare at the airport for a flight not much shorter.
