KieranR 1,294 Report post Posted December 30, 2018 I've been talking to Willie about some new shoes and he reckons i should give the Saucony guides a shot - I've a wide foot, I've tried the NB 860 in 4E width but felt as though it was a little too wide but the 2E was just a little to snug, Hoka Arahi's gave me hot spots, and now the Altra Paradigm 4 but im not loving them anymore...not sure why, the paradigm 3 i liked better. Has anyone used the Saucony Guides before and willing to offer up any feedback Im not fortunate enough to have a shoe shop in Karratha that has many options, and the knowledge of the staff is laughable at best. Stuie016 32 Report post Posted December 31, 2018 After some not so wise diagnostics from a podiatrist I ended up at a physio with massive issues with tight peroneal tendon and related issues which took 6+ months to rectify. My physio sent me to a specialised running shop who did run analysis and suggested the Saucony Guide 10 to me. I have not had an issue whatsoever since having these shoes, really comfortable. Unfortunately after wearing out my third pair the Guide 10 are no longer available worldwide in my size. I recently purchased a pair of Hurricane ISO 4 and after a few days of bedding in these too feel good. My first pair of Guide 10 were a D width but my next two were 2E. My latest shoes are back to a D which i now know is too narrow but wearable. The only thing I I will say with the Saucony is if the shoe is too narrow you will bust through the side at your little toe eventually. Hope my uneducated experience helps in some way. FatPom 4,226 Report post Posted December 31, 2018 Can't help with the Guides but currently rocking my first pair of Saucony, the RIDE ISO and they've been fantastic so far, no arch pain and no blisters.
pieman 1,083 Report post Posted December 31, 2018 I have the same history and experience with the 860s and the guide just didn't work for me. I probably should have gone the wide fit but didn't but the general cushioning and 'ride' just didn't do it for me.. great lawn mowing shoes though.. 😁 1
k3vski 83 Report post Posted January 2 I started using Saucony Guide few years ago, switched from Asics GT 2000s. I have flat feet with practically no arch, so these shoes with mid sole support suit me. I used to get orthotics but I find they over correct so now I run without them. I have gone through 5 pairs of Saucony Guides and have no complaints. They do make them in 2E widths as well.
prizna 706 Report post Posted January 2 As a fellow wide footer I use to run in a 2E, never felt the need to expand to the 4E. I shifted to Saucony Kinvaras a couple of years back and found the one standard size for Saucony shoes to be slightly narrower than the 2E. Have you tried different lacing techniques? Depending on where the width of your foot is it may help, I skip the front most lace holes which has provided a bit more freedom around the widest part of my foot.
monkie 882 Report post Posted January 2 As a running shoe nerd I would seriously say if Willie suggests it then go with it. He knows his stuff and has surprised me in the past.
