Me too. Heaviest I’ve been in 5 years. I think I am up to something like a dozen.

I am in. First race in 11 months after rupturing my Achilles. The run is going to be slow, but it will be good to be out there.

Am in for my 30th year but race #27.

Am expecting IronJimbo might need to drop a can of awesomeness to get me through.

Been cooler than normal in the Riff too? Haven't used a wetty there since the temp range was changed by TA. Maybe 2013 or 2014?

Anyone know if were riding again in the industrial estate? Seems like the course changes every other year..

A no for me, I am racing the standard the weekend after at Husky, but weather permitting I will ride out and cheer you on.

Am guessing with all this rain it will be wetsuit ready.

Course looks to be back to the industrial estate:

Same course as last year. Not bad, got away with the TT.

I got into some traffic mostly on lap 2 (was 2nd AG wave), this year would be a change for me as they have my AG to the back end. Lot of "drafting" and traffic. I'm trying to not draft, but can't help if I over take, then there is someone else within the legal distance to overtake ahead of them.

Edit: The +1 and I might be out there on Saturday as he wants to do the enticer for a finisher medal.

Same as last year - through the industrial site (2 laps). If you are good at cornering, you will have fun.

I'm in. I'm in the cool age group as well 😎

Did anyone notice that the course is back to what it was 4-5 years ago? Industrial estate fun and excitement as opposed to the long drag out Castlereagh road.

The industrial bit is cool.  I love how careful people are in there, as long as they keep left

Regatta centre website is stating water temp at 1.2m is approx 16 degrees. If thats legit, surely wetsuit swim?

yeah that would be for sure..

you never know how or where the TO will take a measurement though.. i'm sure theres a protocol but i've been to some races with some odd results!

I guess they could pee in the water then take the temp there 😁

I'll let you know what the temp is on Sunday when they test it at the Hills race, they will be testing at 2 or 3pm I guess as race starts at 4.

The Ken Baggs process of water temperature testing.

I said in a race briefing once when they bought it up - 'let us know where they are testing so we know where to dump our bags of ice...'

I'm in for about my 15th? First one in '88

The entrants list is not a list. It is a lookup and I can't even find me?

Hi all, water temp was 20.8 today from memory, taken around 3pm when the TO's arrived. Bring the wettie just in case.

Temps in Penrith this week (forecast)

  • Today - 27 cloudy
  • 23rd - 33 sunny
  • 24th - 22 late shower
  • 25th - 25 cloudy
  • 26th - 27 shower
  • 27th - 27 shower

The 33 tomorrow may not be enough to warm it up, but there are warm and cold spots. We started up the far end as usual and were spread around enough that the warm spots were probably not made by others in the water. 😁

Anyone had their thermometer out this week? Worth taking the wettie or not? Even as a shite swimmer I think I'd prefer non-wetsuit as I always seem to swim (even more) terribly in a wettie... :-(

if you swim worse in a wettie I'd be looking towards getting a new one. Something there seems "off" to me. Generally the better swimmers gain less with a wetsuit over us that are kinda less than average.

Hey Willie,

I hear ya - I do actually like the wettie I have (Roka) and pretty sure it fits well, but I know what the problem is... me!

In the last couple of years I've raced far less, trained even less than days gone by - and occasionally a wetsuit-legal race pops up, and usually I've not worn it for about 15 months each time - it's just that feeling of claustrophobia / restriction I need to fix by getting out in it a couple of times before my annual (shortlived) return to racing in the thing!!!

🙂

Good luck to all racing. I hope I am wrong but the forecast tells me to bring some warm clothes to put on afterwards..... At least up top anyway. No one likes being sick on Monday especially if preventable.

Bloody hell - I scooped a swim skin on line and had it sent yesterday ‘guaranteed overnight delviery’. Guess what has gone missing in the post today.....

Hoping for a wetty Swim now, as a weak swimmer there is nothing worse for me than a fresh water non wetsuit swim...
