There is an image on Tim Dons insta page of him refilling on the ride - the tail bottle fills from the top, so its a bit weird.

That looks a little awkward...then again, I am probably not as flexible as he is! 🤣

You know it!!! I am expecting to be IronJimbo's road kill at Nepean this year. Sadly... My bike hasn't had much use. The ski season was too good!!!

I'm still treating Nepean as an 'A' race mate.  You've been giving your quads a very good workout!

this is the issue with most new bikes coming out, they're not making the huge leaps and gains that came between about 2000 and 2015. It's much of a muchness now.

That was my thinking back in 2011 when I bought my nosecone shiv, it's diminishing returns

Seven years later they are telling us the new one is only a minute quicker over 180km...

Even then, like the P4 when that was released, its not really the bike that is quicker its the addition of "accessories" or "fairings" that is doing the bulk of that work.

In ST wankspeak, we have "reached the age of peak aero"...

If I can't fit it behind my seat I don't need it

Good luck to them though, if the market is there

I reckon a disc and tri-spoke would still have my Softride within a poofteenth of that bike on most courses.

Thing at the back copies the trek speed concept a bit.

You mean the little box that Felt and QR and whole bunch of other bikes have? It's hard to be 100% original...plus this things stores 1.5 litres of water...not a spare tube

There was a picture of a perspex model of the frame, it showed the very long hose running down the seat tube, around the BB and up the down tube. Apart from being hard to clean, I would have though it might interfere with cabling, especially on a DI2 set where it could rub and pull the connectors loose?

Doesn't leave you a lot of space to tuck a bottle low behind the seat!  I wonder how many bottles will get kicked off bikes when mounting/dismounting that bike?

Funny how Lucy has a normal bottle behind the seat despite the 1.5l storage tank. I bet the pros won’t use the rear thug for water

My 2011 p3c with tririg front end and brakes and upgraded r8000 groupo is fast and aero, don’t bag your older machine, it probabaly still rocks.

Not spending more on a tri rig front end than the bike is worth...

Fair enough. But when you want to upgrade to a bike that gets p5 aero and don’t have $8k, but have $1k it was a good option for me. Also I love the fit and geometry on the p3c so I was able to keep that. I’ve really enjoyed upgrading the bike and making it a project over the past few years though.

Everyone make different decisions on this stuff and have have different ideas so I complete get your sentiment in front end v value of rest of the bike.

2016 I raced it in Kona and there wasn’t many bike my generation there but I knew I wasn’t given away anything to the newer models.

Dont get me wrong, I know my bike is not that and and can be made "within a poofteenth" and I do care about this stuff (sorted cable routing, latex tubes, fast tyres, bottle placement etc) but I am going for the best bang for minimal bucks and $200 for a brake that might save me 10 secs over 180km, i'd rather just try and lose weight or do another session (or do a session at all at the moment)

Thats my back of MOP approach..

It actually doesn’t look that bad in the flesh , even with that big thing on the back

the front end is uber cool , the colour is great

if you tAke  off the rear thing it’s a nice bike , way better looking than most out there these days and way better than the previous shiv tri , but hay that ain’t saying much

pity about the price , but I’m sure we will see this model come out in lesser spec for lesser $$$$.

I hear you mate, I didn’t get the aero brake for ages as $ for time is not real good, they had a sale on front end with the brake included so the package was good “value” at the time. At that I did the front end I was pretty lean and fast so the upgrade was a cool next step to find a few minutes.

I just don’t have $14k us for a new p5x or shiv! It’s fun making an older frame as fast as possible. I’ve even rerouted the cables into the top tube also so it looks modern and saves a few seconds. On the tri rig brake it actually has pretty good stop power, I’ve kept an ultegra on the back as I really can’t see a tri rig brake doing anything back there for aero.

How does the rear thing attach? Also apparently you can take the bento box thing out and store tools and tube in the tubing, does that seem to work ok?

The Shiv TT was always a great looking bike, then they decided to try and incorporate the entire triathlon wishlist and just like "The Homer" it just didnt look any good.

Agree the shiv TT and current uci shiv look great and are super fast. Macca rode the shiv tt the year crowie won on the new bike, always thought that said a lot that he preferred original.

One issue with these new integration like new shiv is they are locking owners into that storage, I think the trek with rear box and water bottle boses on down tube and top tube give the rider choice.

Ive upgraded to the tri rig front end on my shiv with the aero brake as well.  Only since I have done that have I even started shaving for a race after seeing the data that there are gains ~ 1min in a 40k olympic race.  Cant even imagine what that means over ironman.  Its definitely made me think about a few other little things now like bottle placement which Ill be incorporating at Busso.

I'd love to get one of these new shivs but I can't justify that price right now and will continue using my upgraded shiv until my sponsor (girlfriend) decides I'm worthy of a new bike.

Heaps of the pros at 70.3 Worlds had the tri rig front on their Shivs and other bikes. It’s a nice clean fast set up and seems to work a lot better then many of the shitty aero brakes that came originally on those bikes.

with water bottle in an IM, just run one between arms up front and if you want a second one a normal bottle in down tube. Lance Armstrong was going off about this during the Tour de France as he hates those aero bottle on the bike, he said they hard to grab and if you want water get something on their useable

in an iM there are so many aid stations along the way you want be without a drink for Long

i hate it. I’m very disappointed actually. I’ve got two shivs and for their day they were awesome. What I’ve been waiting for is an evolution that matches what Canyon and BMC offer. What specialised have done is introduce a bunch of gimmicks that all look like disasters waiting to happen :

*having the fuel hydration cell tube running through the frame to behind the rear seat lacks simplicity - especially when it comes to refilling: imagine trying to squirt a biddon behind your arse in high winds whilst already fatigued ...

*having to bend down and dig out gels from the front tube on the frame. Also unnecessarily awkward and potentially hazardous.

* Those folding handlebars look like a compensation-class action lawyers delight.

* that fuggy front end - three vertical surfaces to create undue turbulence- compare with the Canyon/BMC approach - one large rounded surface to neatly seperate the airflow over the top of the Frame...

Im more interested in the simple things, like cleaning out the hydration system. Cleaning and drying out a bog standard camelbak  and keeping it mould free is hard enough, this should be an absolute ball ache.

Also would be interested to see what weight penalty it carries for all this "integration"

They say that the tube runs through a conduit built into the frame so it is very simple to remove and install the tube for cleaning.

I do like that the bike has a multitude of different set up options, ie you have bolts on the top tube to add a bento box if you want, while using the down tube space solely for spares.  Add a single BTA bottle and 1.5l in the rear hydration and that would do me for an ironman.  i stop at special needs so a quick fill up and away I go refilled for Lap 2.

I just hope the non s works version comes in a realistic price.
