IM Wales: yma dwi eto

Recommended Posts

Which I hope says ‘Here I am again’. ( gawd help me).

Left Winchester after taking Flipper for her first day of school. Had a 4hr drive which started with a most beautiful blue sky day and by the time I got to Wales the sky was considerably darker. An hour out from Tenby and the wind had become very strong and it was pissing down, hooray!

Im only doing this race on the basis that weather simply can’t be any worse than last year! The forecast is very mixed and meant to better on Friday, terrible Saturday and mixed Sunday but it seems to change forecast every few hours. It’s definitely getting windier though.

Hoping to build on my result at LCW and have putt a lot of thought into how to approach the run. I had to drive down the hill that you run up today and was already getting PTSD:o

As usual, Mrs FP has been an absolute legend and I’ve had heaps of support from family and friendsThis will be my last IM for a few years and really hoping to do myself and all you guys proud.

I will get some more pics tomorrow when the weather is meant to be better.

this race is on my wish list one day, it just sounds brutal.  The whole singing at the start is awesome...what an atmosphere, i keep watching it on you tube.

Best of luck FP, hopefully its a bit nicer than last year.

Best luck Ian -- that shot looks like the Wales I remember - balmy summers day.

You are the strong man of this site.

Picking one of the top 3 hardest Ironmans run.

Good luck. Well done even getting to the start line.

See you at the finish

How many wetsuits are you allowed to wear?

And do you have to take them off before you start the bike?

Cheers everyone.  Didn’t sleep much at all last night, it’s 6am now but my first night in any hotel is always bad for sleeping. Still dark so I don’t know what the weather is doing. Going to either ride or swim before brekkie and do the other afterwards.

Race briefings start today and I want to get my bags done also and the chill out. My sister might be coming over a while on Saturday.

If you really want to see a clip that captures IM Wales craziness, watch this one, these guys are legends here. If you give them a sideways ‘V sign’ they go crazy:lol:

Cheers Peter. Don’t feel too strong compared to some of the ultra fit people roaming around but we’ll see what happens Sunday. I’ve been battling an on again off again pain the left lower back, hoping it eases.

Took the bike out this morning, everything seems fine except the new Swiss Stop pads I’m running squeal something awful!

And we want to see a post-race pic of those lilly white Pommy legs slumped in a plastic chair too!

All the best for the race Ian.  Hope the weather is not too brutal.

Finish line is emerging. Where I took this photo is about 30mtrs from my hotel door. Which is good when you've finished but bad when you have to run past it 4 bloody times!

Hey mate, have a great race.  The pizza you had started with looked pretty good.

All the best and will be tracking you to see how you go.

Cheers

Mae dy Nghymraig yn dod ymlaen. Cymer bwyll yfori a pob lwc hen ffrind!

Go good FP, I'll speak to the Welsh weather gods and sort out that weather.

Everytime I see pictures of the place, brings back memories of Sunday school trips!

Take care out there fella!

Bagged and racked, lasagne eaten. Nothing to do now but watch a crap movie and try not think about the race.

Weather is changeable, very windy and there will be rain tomorrow but how much depends on which forecast you believe.

1:23:39 for the swim. He's out and running up the slope!

Watching the video footage I just can’t comprehend how hard this race must be.

And it sold out.

Probably because of the lack of other races?? 🤔

I’ll be interested to see people watches from the wales swim. I have another friend who is doing it. She swam a 1:20. Her last Ironman 8 weeks ago she swam a 1:34.
