Sunny coast 70.3 Anyone there now?

Recommended Posts

I've organised to leave my bike with someone tonight and get my teammate to pick it up tomorrow as I am on a course for work tomorrow and have to head up and register now. However the girl that I've organised to leave it with, I haven't been able to get in contact with and I'm not sure what time she's arriving today. Maybe she's not coming in till later tonight? Is there anyone who's already arrived and would like to babysit my bike overnight as a backup in case I can't get hold of her?

Preferably a well-known tranny, not just some random who's going to steal my bike and run off!

I can babysit it for you if needed. I won't run off as I'd need to get a plane home 😁

I can PM you my number if you want.

If you haven’t seen Rake you probably want to start at the first series. It was on Netflix so you could watch anytime!

Pissing rain apparently

It is here at my place at the moment but it is patchy. The radar shows it a bit better up there, but the roads will still be wet.

Sounds like Crowie needs to lift his game. ;)

Good to see him still making the young guys work hard.

He is the Jimmy Connors of triathlon

I did 5.10 or so. I didn't enjoy the rain on the bike. If I break my elbow again I will be out of a 100k plus a year job. I think I might be getting a 5 min penalty for leaving a plastic bag on my bike overnight.😭 Having a beer now cheering the back markers..😉

Slow twitch of all places calling out this event for being a draft fest.

Heard weather was appalling, gale force winds

I can't remember exactly how the run is there.  I know the od turns around half way up the hill, so you could just bump it further up if needed to get two 10k.  But doesn't the 70.3 come all the way back to transition or something?  And where is the far turnaround?  If there's intersections etc which interfere, and it's a pain to find an extra loop, well that's the rub of it.  But if it's easy to add another section, that's lazy.

Well it’s good the swim wasn’t 1.9k short like the Busselton events have been of late.

This isn't a club race its $400+ entry.  For that they can find an extra 250m of run course.

Yeah it's odd with the tech they have these days they can't mark out a course properly. I did a OD and I was looking at the swim course and it looked about 300m. I told the Surf Life savers and they scowled, went out and moved a buoy 3m. It ended up being 700m instead of 1500m. They were using Iphones to measure it..

Exactly. 1km out on the run is a joke. How long was the swim?

Sounds weird that the run would be short - isn't it the same as the previous years? Or did they change something up?

It seemed that it was the 8th km that put it out of whack on the run for me - up until then it was about right.

Bike extension worked from a spectator perspective but not sure the cpl of guys that hit the fencing as the road narrowed at the lights down the hill would agree!

i did think the transition set up was better then last year (probably helped it wasn’t a sell out due to WC70.3 and itu worlds).

Have spoken to a few people that have heard that there were tacks on road which caused a few flats - anyone else heard or experience anything like that?
