Time will tell with the whole Ventum thing...So far all I see it a whole bunch of marketing hype.  I hope they have some serious capital behind them.  Oh, and BTW, non down tube frames are nothing new to the Triathlon scene.  Is the Ventum the Slingshot of 2018?  When this beast came on the market back in the day everyone said it was the future....a couple of years later Rebel Sport were hawking them off for basically nothing.

Looking at his bike dad's not sort of a dollar either!  I wonder if he gets an entry for next year rather than this?

Looking at where they live on Noosa sound one of them isn't short of a buck.

Dad qualified, son bought the ventum

They said if you bought a Ventum you get an Ironman entry excluding Championship races ie; Kona.

Not what the article says

WILLING to do almost anything to race alongside his father Ken at this year’s Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, opportunity knocked for Noosa’s Ryan Rae.
He also managed to get a US$15,000 bike as part of the ticket.
After Ken earned his slot at the holy grail of Ironman triathlon in China’s 70.3 Xiamen last November, Ryan was desperate to be by his side but failed in his qualifying attempt at Ironman New Zealand.
Ventum then released the Kona Anniversary Edition Bicycle, which for a short time offered a Kona slot to buyers.
“Dad bought one and he was the first person in the world to buy it. Ironman did a film about it in Brissy,” Ryan said.
“I jokingly said if it meant I got a ticket I would be buy one too. He said ‘be careful what you wish for, they have just released an offer’.
“I hit the f***-it button. You have to spend the money sometimes

I was looking at the Original post by Ironman on this in July..... and someone asked the question re: Kona and Jimmy from Ventum replied all Ironman races except Kona (read championship race).

My conclusion here is:

I am very wrong which is Ok.....

these guys have done some secret deal or.....

they have very deep pockets and have bought 2 eBay spots and just telling people it comes with the bike.

or Ventum got such a huge demand they had to make in Any but not Kona.

I have emails.  It’s 100% for Kona spots. I’ve heard 37 took up the deal. .

IIRC when it originally came, there was about a 24hr window of confusion where they said it wasn't for Kona or HIM WC but they changed it.

They did have a limit but he never told me what it was other than if I bought one I’d get a kona spot. But do it soon. It was like a real estate agent deal.

They were just discussing Charles's new specialized, and welchy mentioned they're on the Ventum bike course and that we'll see the Ventum bikes a little later on!  Is that because not a single Pro is riding one so we have to wait for the ag'ers???? ;)

Kessler just dropped out the chase pack. I was hoping the cooler conditions might have helped her out.

Still not a bad effort 10 months post baby

It would be an issue for Shimano if the bikes hanger breaks off!

They guaranteed entry for a certain amount of purchasers!  They didn't guarantee a finish.

That’s a mechanics issue.

Rear derailleur overshifts due to stops not being set properly or a bent hanger and goes into spokes and its all over from there.

No broken or bent spokes. Usually a give-away for that issue

He KQed in his own right. 2nd in Cairns.

And his 12th Kona IM. He'll be disappointed for sure, but he'll probably be back next year.

The issue was from the ceramic speed oversized jocky wheels , going into the spokes and ripping thederailer hanger off

we came across two of these cases on the course , both used the oversized jockey wheels

I was going to go down this route for mrs IP bike but was warned against it by someone smarter than me and we just went normal size ceramic jockey wheels
