I agree, after looking at the course today I'm puzzled by the fast times as well as it does not look like an easy course. Be great to hear from people who have done it before.

Rode part of the course today, Palm Cove to the turn around. It's definitely a fast course, heaps better than Busso! Beautiful ride and the the kickers are small and help break up the monotony that you get in Busso. Tarmac is okish, bit rough in places, but not bad, no real big hills other than Rex's Lookout which was no big deal. The wind comes in early and very consistent, probably very few windless days here this time of year I'd guess? Which means 60km of headwind from turnaround point. But it wasn't too bad, you are protected mostly on your ride back to Palm Cove, a few exposed sections, but you can still maintain a high pace. From Palm Cove to Cairns it would be more exposed. Chomping at the bit to race!

I know I am talking to those with common sense here....but....... We drove back from Cape Tribulation today. Saw around a dozen riders on the road from Palm Cove to Port D, all around midday to 1pm Please, please, please do not ride this section.  Full size trucks, camper vans and caravans of all sizes do not work with bikes on such a narrow and busy road.

Don't want to derail this part of the thread but do want to provide this public service anouncement for anyone in need of last minute quality accom a stones throw from the finish adjacent to night markets. Had the misfortune to have to withdraw so feel free to followup direct with....

Javiers lack of stache is highly concerning!  He wont win now

This is his first IM. Once he's decided it's for him, he'll grow the stache. A good dark haired spanish guy like him will have one in 2 days. :)

I just registered. I was told enjoy your first Ironman. I laughed, it's my 21st. A cheap local race for me. I almost saw John Hill smile at the fast gear tent.I am heading to Palm Cove for a easy 30 min swim and pay respects to my Father. I threw his ashes in the sea in 2005. He will protect everyone in the swim on Sunday. Is anybody keen for dinner tonight or should I take the hint? 😒
