I can’t wait for Kona (Wurf)

It's all a game to him, he made his money as a pro cyclist and is just having fun now. Other athletes this is their livelihood, they race to win, every place is $ in the bank, why should someone donate some of their income to another athlete so they can qualify to Kona, if they can't qualify then they shouldn't be there. An ex pro cyclist who raced for the most ethically challenged Team, and still trains with them, has no right calling out other athletes for any reason.

I’m not sure what you have against Cannondale?

I remember this - Prior to him going to NZ we all road to Pheasants. Headed out along the M5 til the last toll gate (when they were there) and the go head was to do a TT to Pheasants Nest - Stadler off first and bang..... never saw him again till almost at PheasantsNest next where he was just rolling in. Cameron Howe and I were the last two off and made ground on most of the people that day.....about 12-15 of us.

After drink stop...... Cam said.... stick to his wheel.... because he knew Stadler was going to go again. And sure enough he did. We were ready.

Only 4 of us stayed with him...........all the way to the M5 tunnel at Earlwood where we regrouped. That was one of my all time favourite days on the bike.

That little ride was the stuff of legend. Were you there on that 48 degree day at Forster when Dunstan rode around Norman on the first TT effort before blowing up like a shittake mushroom 5km later 😂

Cam racing challenge Almere at the moment.

I thought sanders was nuts racing this close to Kona.

This is 3 weeks later.

I can see cam burning himself for Kona now.

No chance at top 5 in Kona now.

Changes after the first lap (7k) of the run at #CAA18

1. @cameronwurf slightly extending his lead

2. @SDPKovacic +3:37

3. @GoLngrHawk +5:21 (losing time but gaining a spot)

4. @evertscheltinga +5:35

I guess it really depends on how he approaches it. While he broke the course Bike record, I was surprised he only had a 3 minute lead, and at 30 odd Ks of the Run he was still on track for a 2.50, which would be a 10 minute pb. Maybe he was riding at low effort (for him) and was focusing on this as his long run for the week??

I heard him say somewhere one of the hard things about Racing as much as he is this year is holding himself back and focusing on specific aims, and not ‘racing’ flat out. They are 8 hour training days with aid stations and closed roads.

Wurf either blew to bits at the end, or he really was only taking it as a training day and eased right back once he'd been passed. He dropped over 5 minutes in the last 8km.

He said on Instagram a week back that it was a catered training day.

But still.

Looking at his strava file for the run, he seemed to just drop the pace massively for 3k @ the 35k mark. No high HR leading in, it’s like he planned to drop pace there. He said in the post race interview the crowd towards the finish spurred him on, that may explain why he upped the pace straight back to where he was at for the last few Ks.

Or he blew up, and took 3k to get back some form.

I think a top 10 in Kona would be considered a success for a professional there for his second time.

Yep agree.

What he will do though is influence the race, which is all the better for us!

I’d like to see him smash the bike course record.

Having relatively new characters like Wurf and the other guy who runs like he's got a crook hip make the race exciting - but even with them in their getting a lot of attention it would be hard to bet against Frodeno (now he's given the vegan diet away) 😏
