I read 19-20deg

I just did then too. They read it at the beach before we left at 17. Not sure where they took that temp. I swam off after the first km as I had to get home by 8. Maybe it's colder at the beach. I suppose it is shallower, and in the shade.

30 min swim yesty.

12.7 in the river.

Wetty, neoprene hood and was really comfortable.  Got in really easy. But yes, it is cold.

Will do normal silicone cap next time.  Normal cap last time at 12.5. We had some rain so it warmed up when I'd expected it to cool down.

You can keep those temperatures. Even if I wore the wetsuit I'd have to drink a few litres beforehand to warm it up enough.

Really it's just getting in & the first 3 minutes, then 30 minutes after I get out that I have a problem with. While I'm swimming I'm fine. I don't even feel cold when I get out, standing there dripping in the shade in about 12 degrees air temp. First sign of a westerly may change that though. :)

Ah, short term gratification.

Try scotch?

Yep. Unpleasantly warm in summer. Outdoor pool seems cooler!

Being in the weir pool makes it great for non pool swimming. But summer also gets algal blooms. Not good.

3.2km OWS again this morning. Water temp was probably the same, but I felt a lot colder given the air temp has dropped from 14 last swim to 10 this morning. Then when a westerly breeze came across the lake bringing in a thick fog it got real interesting. Probably because I watched Lake Placid last night. :)

Seemed a lot easier today, with the air temp back up to a respectable Brisbane temp of 14. I'm not looking forward to next week though when it is forecast to get down to 7. I can see the dam getting a fair bit cooler this coming week. Add to that the westerlies blowing across it and it won't be a pleasant solstice swim.

I hate it when the car thermometer is reading 4 degrees on your way to an OWS.

3.2km down, still warming up.

35min in the river.

12.3 deg.

Thin wetty,  normal cap.

Any longer I'd need my neoprene hoody ot st least thick silicone one.  My head was starting to hurt the last 5 minutes.

Then about the same time in a hot shower.

Anybody wanting to do a Winter Solstice swim, we have quite a few people coming to Enoggera Reservoir at 6am Thursday. The main group are doing a 1.6km swim to the end buoy & back, but I'll probably do a 2nd lap as well.

Did 2km at the Cockburn pool.

Great facilities.

Lane to myself outside.

No access to my dongle to upload the file.

4km at the dam this morning. The strong westerlies whipped up a good chop, and the cooler days & nights have had an effect on the water temp. Fernando (our floating thermometer) has dropped a degree to 18 this morning. This was my longest swim in the dam since it started getting cold, and I felt it. 3 days till soltice. :)

This is Fernando.

I'm sitting here with nine stitches in my elbow and a divot in my check - just wishing to swim. You lot enjoy yourself swimming. I'll be back in two weeks.

No swimming for me since Cairns. A combo of injuries (tennis elbow, bursitis of the shoulder) and illness (heavy cold two weeks out from Cairns) left me with slightly less than 30km clocked up by last Sunday. Given the elbow is still a niggle for which I am now receiving Physio treatment I stopped swimming. Alas.

Congratuations to everyone who acheived their goals.

Till next year!!

I was going with the spreadsheet...  at least I can swim without guilt once it is over ;)

So, 24th or 25th?

Going off the spreadsheet 24th is the last day to get your swims in

Should be 7 weeks (of seven days each) plus a day, ie. 7 x 7 + 1 = 50 days

So if the challenge started on a Monday, it would then finish on a Monday (7 weeks plus 1 day) ....

Going to be switching back to sleeveless wetsuits after racing the last year in sleeved. Last two races I've raced in my $100 sleeveless and have raced quicker. I'll ditch the Vortex and go for a bit more of a higher end sleeveless (Vengeance). I've got the Vengeance sleeved, I'll probably sell that.

Don't worry. I'm thinking about late morning swims at Centenary from next week. The cold is starting to take it out of me this past week.

Lovely in the pool this morning (28 Degrees) but could have done without the kickboarding.  With the wind coming across the pool I spent the whole length trying to kick with my whole body sunk into the water 😀

Count your blessings.

I'm racing the Coeur D'alene 70.3 on this coming weekend. The locals have advised the lake temp is well below usual at only 13C.

That's colder than Norseman!

Is there a minimum cut off temp for Ironman races?

No mention of a minimum, but from the IM rules:

Quote

Wetsuits are mandatory for professional athletes and age-group athletes for water temperatures below 16 degrees C/60.8 degrees F

ITU rules allow for shortening of the event down to 1500m for 13C, or 750m for 12.9C. Below 12C it is cancelled.

Decided I'll be wearing a wetsuit for the Magnetic Island to Townsville swim next month and ATM I'm leaning towards my cheap Dare2Tri sleeveless over my B70 Helix full suit.

My L shoulder is pretty average at best and I'm a little worried about the fatigue factor from the extra resistance over that distance. The longest I've swum in the full-suit is only 6k. I recon the Dare2Tri sleeveless could be more bouyant in the legs too.

Managed 20 x 100 today held 1:50 for the first 15 then slipped to about 1:55 and could feel my form slipping.

Was going on 2:15 is this too much rest? Yes I know I'm slow but at the start of winter fish I couldn't hold 2:00 for more then 5
