Bored@work 2,117 Report post Posted March 6 With only 9 weeks till Ironman Australia. How is everyones training going? Who's racing & what times are you chasing?
The new guy 31 Report post Posted March 6 This will be my first ironman. Did the 70.3 there last year as my first long course, 6.02. Did western Sydney at 5.45, and Husky at 5.29. Aiming at sub 13, there are a lot of unknowns with something this long. I had a great training block leading into Husky, and am in another big one now to start ramping up hours and distances. Pretty happy with where I am currently. Its starting to get very real.
Bored@work 2,117 Report post Posted March 6 Nice! can't wait to read your race report. What time did you do for the 70.3?

The old theory of double your 70.3 time plus an hour will get you close to 13 hours. Fingers crossed you can find a few minutes extra.
The new guy 31 Report post Posted March 6 The fingers will definitely be crossed! Pretty confident I'll swim 1.20, rode a 2.50 last year for the 1 lap so by the time I Slow it down to IM pace should be good for 6-6.15, then try to set myself up with the best chance for the run. Have only run 1 marathon previously, and had my worst race by far. Had an injury leading in, and blew out at the end due to lack of Ks. Ran a bloody 4.45 that day with no ride beforehand, so I think absolute best case would be a 4.30, but that is the part of the day with the most to gain or lose.
monkie 425 Report post Posted March 6 I'm gonna go in for the 70.3 as a target post IM to avoid the blues. Gonna try and crack the 5 hour mark.

It's 4:34 & I'm up already & thinking about jumping on the trainer. There's no need to waste money on fancy ceramic speed jockey wheels, I would rather earn my extra watts.

k3vski 44 Report post Posted March 6 Chasing IM finish number 12 and this would be my second time at Port. The last time I did it 3 years ago, I had a tubular puncture that I couldn't fix but I was lucky enough to get a spare wheel from the roaming mechanic, so managed to finish it in the end. Hoping NOT to repeat that this year!

ironjen 23 Report post Posted March 7 If anyone is looking for accommodation, I've got 5 nights at Port Pacific and can no longer race. Thursday to Tuesday. It's on the bike and run course, a few hundred metres from the finish line and the all important Beer Mile venue. PM me if anyone is in need of accommodation. Best of luck to all of you who are racing.
