varying cost of Ironman Races

Recommended Posts

Whats with the big cost difference in Asia to here & everywhere else

Just browsing the net and there's quite a difference in race entry fees between here and there

Is there a ranking or something or is it due to popularity...even 70.3 is a decent difference.  Danang where ill race next may is currently at $297 entry.

It's consumerism. You charge what people are willing to pay.

I paid that price around Xmas time and it was £415 excl Active fee.

Just looked at the site, Rego opened yesterday  for 2018 and Tier 1 already gone.

IRONMAN Wales 2018
Tier 1: £380
Tier 2: £400
Tier 3: £420
Tier 4: £440
+8 % Active Fee for every Tier Pricing

That 8% active fee is the biggest bullshit deal I have ever heard of - 8% is just robbery

On the surface it seems like competitors get nothing from the active fee, but surely ironman must see value in it, as I'm sure Wanda group with billions at their disposal could easily knock op their own version of "active" and keep the money in house if it is just "money for jam"

The prices for the Danang race are in USD, so a little more than 297 AUD.  Ironically I was there last week - it is flippin' hot there where whippets have the advantage.

8% is ok, if the race was $80 you wouldnt blink.

It's the race that charges $800 that creates the issue. Blame the race directors, not active.  They only get 8 cents if the race is $1.  Not their fault people charge and pay $800.

If if you want the active fee to come down, include capped race entry prices in the national sanctioning process, after all race directors don't run the sport in this country and they'd accept being told the maximum they could charge for entry ...... lol.   If a race is more than $100 it isn't sanctioned..... can see that happening .... lol

I think its the jacked up accommodation prices that add a sting to the entry fees

I dare say permits and cost of putting the event on are a lot dearer here than in many of the Asian sites.

This

all the OHNS bullshit , red tape and way over the top wages  here's oz  , is just making everything way to expensive

$85 seems fair.

Enter Challenge races. I just entered Roth and they have a 49 Euro cancellation option. If you pay it, you can pull out up to 30th June 2018 and still get all your money back, except for a 90 Euro admin fee. I thought it was excellent.

But you won't  get the chance to race Kona.
