I do wish Matt would get some coaching in how to pronounce French place names.  He hurts my ears.

Tonight we had the river Sens instread of Seine.

I nearly spewed at Plateau des Belles Filles, sounding like  "fields" the other night. Try fee-yu please.

Sad to see Richie Porte crash out on the descent. He just missed the apex of the corner like he thought he could ride across the edge. He must have had a lapse in concentration or was distracted by something. Hope he's OK he was talking on the ground before they put him in the ambulance.

Spectacular and awful crash by Richie. Broken pelvis and clavicle.

Unfortunate for Richie. Looked bad and turns out its a fractured collar bone and pelvis.

That's also the tour over for me. Richie was probably the only one with a chance to get over Froome.

How insane was Bardet's descent????

Martin said Porte locked up the rear wheel and that caused him to go into the grass. Martin was lucky to get away with it, and get back on the bike. I didn't see it on the commentary, but apparently he came off again on the descent.

Five abandons last night, including Porte (collarbone & Pelvis), Thomas (collarbone) and Gesink (L1 Vertebrae), and seven not making the time cut (including Demare).

In Martin's words, "I guess the organisers got what they wanted".

Spectacular night of cycling.

The Bad: Richie's crash. Hitting that stone embankment going full gas would be everyone's worst nightmare. Hope he recovers mentally as well as physically.

The Good: Barguil.Fully deserving of the KOM jersey. Gutted he didn't win the sprint. Beaten by Uran who had a broken derailleur and could only ride in 53/38-11.

Aru attacking Froome after he has signalled he had a mechanical, and the look of panic on Froome's face as everyone rides away from him.

Bardet's insane descent down the Mont du Chat.

It had everything.

So at what point does a team say goodbye to their protected rider, just to save themselves. FDJ lost 4 riders last night. Three of them voluntarily staying back to try to pull Arnaud Demare inside the time cut. I suppose they have no-one else in the hunt for a jersey, but it puts a lot of strain on the rest of the team if they try to do anything in a stage.

Poor Ritchie - that crash was awful. Probably lucky it wasn't more serious.

Agreed. When I saw the neck brace come out I thought, "Oh no...head injury."

Granite is not very forgiving.Fabio Casartelli springs to mind.

I think Robbie is far worse in that regard.

He's an out and out butcher.

The adverts suck this year.

And I still don't know who invented traffic lights, ground coffee, the mobile phone or Wi-Fi!

I am the same with JEEP ads.

I'd never buy one due to the commercial.

Thanks ExH I wondered what caused Richie to miss the apex completely the clip they replayed endlessly on the night didn't really show the wheel locking up but then it still seems like something must have distracted him or blocked his vision of just where the edge of the apex was and then when he did see it "oh shit!" Maybe one of the other riders momentarily blocked his vision.

Ritchie made the same remark from the hospital.

Yeah I think he broke his pelvis when he bounced on the ground and was then catapaulted across the road into the granite and then broke his collar bone. It was a hard bounce.

Fabio I think hit a granite castellation as he went over the edge (without a helmet) though they said if he'd worn a helmet it wouldn't have mattered if I could I would go back and make him wear one anyway, it might have given him just enough of a chance to survive. He went down wearing the champion of Italy jersey, such a shame a young rider with a lot of potential.

I liked it the other night when Matt was stirring Robbie about His dislike and unfriendly relationship with Stuart O'Grady. Robbie warned him to stop otherwise I can easily reach over and bop you. Matt stopped..:D

I wondered too why Porte crashed looked like a pretty basic bend - roads mostly dry....no one else made a simple error and crashed ( of those around him)....... now we will never know if Porte would have won the tour......

Not following Commissaire's instructions.

Funnily enough Bouhanni was also fined, for punching a Specialised rider. He missed last year's tour with an injured hand from punching someone.
