My first new TT thread

Recommended Posts

Time for a new TT bike after about 9 years on my old Slice. Below are some on offer from my club's LBS sponsor in Brisbane. Does anyone have any thoughts on any of these? I was budgeting up to around 4 grand including new race wheels but I'm open to spending more if it's really 'worth'it. I thought I'd buy new Cadens for around $1,600 so thoughts on those too? Although everyone sees pretty happy with the Cadens and the price is hard to beat that might be a fait accompli. Also anything else to consider when I'm trying them on for size.e.g. adjustability, ease of packing when traveling etc.

1. 2014 Felt B16 (Shimano 105) Was $2199, Now $1399

2. 2016 Felt B12 (Dura ace) Was $3199, Now $2399.95

3. 2015 Fuji Norcom straight 2.1 (Ultegra) Was $4299, Now $2999

4. 2016 Scott Plasma 20 (Ultegra) Was $4999, Now $3499

Check out the BMC Time Machines. I just picked up a new TM02 from Bicycle Express in Adelaide for $3k.

That looks nice Zed.  Does the 02 have the alternative seatpost positioning?

Seriously.

2018 bikes will be out soon.

Heck, I'd seriously think on if the 2016 stuff is worth it too.

As for the Fuji - are you gunna fit on a 51?

Yes it does. The spares container disconnects and the seatpost slides in there. Will look much better with race wheels on.

Some nice discounts, but yeah almost 3 years old, you can probably find some decent discounted 2017 models in the next few months as the 2018s are released. The 2018 BMCs are due out in August I believe, hence the reason why mine was dropped from 4K to 3k.

Depends what you're after.  The felts are old and on the low to mid in their product line.

Norcom is a more recent release but it's a Fuji..

If you're okay buying online look at what zed posted or a Canyon with race wheels for between and 5k..

If your lbs is valley avanti they have a nice avanti chrono pro for 3.3k that looks nice..

These options will have you closer to a current superbike

This is all good stuff and why i came here to ask. Keep it coming. I'll see if there's any BMCs in Brisbane i can look at and have a look at Canyons online. And yeah its Avanti Valley so i can look at the Avanti this weekend if it's the right size.

Like this one? $4,299 including some decent looking wheels plus $179 for postage although that includes a bike box that maybe could be used for traveling in future so would save me buying one. Then there's the issue of sizing as I'm 175cm tall I'm right on the border between 2 sizes.

Oh and I'd need a bike fit since I'd be buying online so that's another few hundred but could still be worth it.

There is a canyon bike fit thingy on the canyon site that works pretty well

they also ring you after the order to double check your sizing to make sure the bike right is as it could be for you

Be interesting to see what others think, but IMO, you're going to find very little difference in performance between say a $3K Cervelo P2 and a $10K Cervelo P5, similarly you'll find very little difference between a $3k disc and a $700 Renn disc. I base that on what I've experienced and observed with mates, other competitors and also what I've read.

Plenty of people start off with a budget TT bike, jump to a much more expensive model and see very little, often negligible gains. So don't get caught into thinking you need to spend big.
