Well Christie made it in on Friday (six weeks or thereabouts), short video by Rupert on facebook.

Is 6 plus weeks within the 13hr IM cutoff?

I watched the Doco last night on SBS demand. It was good but also hard to watch knowing Mike's fate. I shed a tear at the end. Rest in peace buddy..:(

Shit

thats not good

so RAAM (race across America) is on also at the moment , what is the difference between these races ??

I think Raam has a support vehicle with the rider the whole time no they have lots of tight rules and regs in regards to fatigue

the trans am is totally in supported I believe , just like the Indian pacific wheel race

I think from memory RAAM, has teams as well as individuals, different bikes (recumbents etc) support vehicles (campervans etc)

Yes I tight rules say the support vehicle has/should be behind the rider as much as possible

good idea I believe

I watched a doco last night about the team called RAAM Roses. Seems like they have a follow vehicle for the rider with mechanic and the camper and a with the others riders and support doing the 'frog leaps'.

Been a death in the Transcontinental cycle event overnight.

It could mark the end of these types of races, with deaths in each of the 3 majors this year.

Horrible for all involved.

I don't agree, could happen anywhere, anytime.

I suppose that will depend on the circumstances of each accident.

These guys are sometimes well over 24/ 48  hours of riding without a break and if that is a contributor to the accident then maybe something will be put in place to stop this happening.

People will always want to race, we just might see the popularity decrease and the organisation decrease proportionally for a while.

This one happened just a few hours after the start, hit and run.

Bloody awesome stuff.

I love what these guys and girls are attempting but since Mike Halls tragic death my enthusiasm for this event is tempered with a decent smattering of fearing  and trepidation and also in the back of my mind wondering how wise this race is on Australia roads with our poor driving culture.

Godspeed to all.

Is that like Ashley Horner doing an IM each day, then doing a weights session as well?

Only kidding. ;)

Durian posted a Norton Summit time on Saturday so Plantpedaller isn't him.  Besides that he's locked in an twitter & KOM battle with a friend of mine.

I never knew someone could get so pissy over taking a KOM

I am liking it. It's unlike the first edition when the professionals raced. Kristoff is from another planet. 😀

I'm following Cashie.

Poor bloke had a rough start to it all, after 250k on day 1 returned to Perth with bad gastro.  After a day and a bit felt better to try again, returned to the spot where he stopped and kept going.

I like the Show graphs feature (In the Advanced View) as you can see how often/little the riders are sleeping. And the weird shit Cashie is doing.

Something must have happened to French Dragon as she has come back 100km to Norseman in the last hour or so.

Yeah she was just on Facebook,

Hey guys. I hitchhiked back to Norseman - I can’t move my ankle anymore (Achilles tendinitis).
I’ve had issues with my ankle since Southern Cross but it’s got really bad. Will stay in Norseman for now.

On FB she posted the ankle is strapped and she is heading off again.

Mind you she is doing this whole thing in runners and flat pedals.

Just saw she is ahead of Cashie now, so makes sense.

Interesting choice of footwear.

Seems flat platform pedals are becoming a (born again?) thing in touring/bike packing

https://commutercycles.com.au/news/2017/mks-pedals/

I find  super stiff road shoes get very painful on long distance rides, although on IPWR scale my "long ride" is just a morning warm up, at best :)

Correct

you can get flat pedals and normal shoes now that still have cleats but are far more comfortable on and off the bike

PBP is not far out of Warnambool.

He is at nearly 3.5k in 9 days...........

On current pace will likely get to Geelong or better by the time he pulls up tonight
