Brownlee trying IM

Recommended Posts

It will be great to see him racing Ironman. The media attention he will bring will be a good thing. Dont expect him to blow anyone away, but definitely a contender against the best. Many of the top Ironman guys have come out of ITU and these guys were going toe to toe with brownlee (McMahon and Frodeno for example) so he will just be another top athlete and I would say he can win Kona, he has the skill set and work ethic to do well over any distance! Can't wait to see him in action.

None of the guys racing ironman at the moment have gone toe to toe with A.Brownlee... no one has when its been time for him to shine unless you rewind back to Beijing

The guy won two Olympic Gold medals.... not accidentally found himself In the lead and sprinted to a finish he went in twice with intention to win as favorite and executed. This not a small feat and to repeat is mind blowing.

He has blown away the competition whenever he intended to win.

He is a born competitor and winner he will tare IM a new one.

No disrespect to IM or Frodo .... Frodo would not have been a match to AB on any day. Yet He blew IM veterans out of the water. AB and Olympic champions are a different league of triathletes. He will decimate the IM field unless Gomez steps up too.

Brownlee will be an ironman world champ, no doubt about it.

We all said the same thing about snowsill.

BTW I hope he comes to Ironman and wins too.

Also nice comment TheCustomer. 2 years. If he doesn't race once in that 2 years I'll back your statement.

A bit like that female that also took extended time off after a race.

Or that other female that retired in the middle of an amazing streak. Just weird.

Or...once you have scaled the pinnacle of achievement with an Olympic gold medal (or two) then it's a good time to dabble in other areas of interest...

Probably a good chance to diversify his sponsor portfolio as well get some money off some tri specific brands now too.

I wonder what kind of money he's made out of racing this far, with sponsorships etc? If live to see a comparison between the top level in short and long distance racing? We know the money doesn't go that far in long course.... Face it, if you have the ability to go really fast they seem to stick out short course as long as they can, and only move to lc when they've slowed down, if they bother at all. And sometimes if they're not far enough early enough they go there sooner.

So.... At the top end, if you can keep with it, are you better off to stay with the short and the Olympics as long as you can, for financial reasons I mean. Plus you would be getting support from your national bodies which you may not get otherwise (as it seems in Australia). We've seen two of our best either never touch it or retire with barely dipping their toe into long course.

The brownlees are a long long long way from poor... I'd go as far as saying they'd both be worth more than Frodo if you look at the $$$ they've made from the sport.

A home town gold medal, and backing it up 4 years later transcends just the sports pages, which is when great money is made. Add to that his heroics at the grand final race...he would worth a bomb. Jonny would also be rich, partly by association and backed up by being pretty good himself!!

There is also a reason he's doing a Masters of Finance! Smart guys, both of them.

I can see a lot of new sponsors who are waiting for the chance to throw both brothers their stuff, right now both are sort of confined in terms of triathlon related sponsors.

I would like to see him ride another bike brand!!! :P

By winning 2 golds, AB's retirement funds are already secured. By moving away from Olympic distance races, AB is probably progressing and extending his triathlon career.

Can't wait to see him start his first 70.3 and crush it, this will send shivers to every other 70.3 specialists out there.

I'm not convinced he will have immediate success in iron distance races yet.

re sponsors I don't get why boring people get sponsors. even if they win.

AB comes across boring. A champion yes but boring.

I'd invest more money into Johnny. He is at least amusing from what I've seen.

it's why Macca made more money from the sport that Crowie.

But what sponsor wouldn't love to have the guy who sacrificed his race to grab his brother and drag him across the line? That was a publicists dream occurrence. Anyone remember who won?
