Cervelo S3 Aero Road vs Giant Liv TT

Recommended Posts

OK, get the can opener ready!!

So, I'm going back to Olympic/Standard Distance as my focus for the next year or two. As most of you know, one of my bikes has to go. Initially it was the S3 that I was going to boot, but after looking at my results over the last couple of years, I'm thinking that maybe I'll go back to the S3 and sell the Giant (I know this will make some of you very happy! LOL).

I know that the bike position affects the run. I've had a proper bike fit on the S3 and I've got it in a pretty aero position and have the seat as far forward over the cranks as I can (think back to last year's bike fit thread!)

I'm thinking, over an OD race, if I could gain 2km/hr on the bike by going back to the Cervelo, I could afford to lose up to 15 sec/km without losing any time overall ... and I don't think that I would lose that much.

I know I just came off Kona, so this will have affected my times in Noosa (but it should have affected my bike AND my run, yeah?).

Last year in Noosa I placed as follows in my category: 10/5/10 (overall 5th)

This year in Noosa I placed as follows in my category:6/16/7 (overall 4th)

Thoughts??

Check out how I place in my bike/run legs, in other races (in my category) between the Giant and the Cervelo:

Sell one or the other, it probably makes little difference which one.

Just be realistic about the price you're going to be able to get for them.

Making a judgement on category placing would be relatively meaningless as you are not racing the same people on each occasion.

Keep the one you enjoy riding the most. The bike is not going to make as much difference as the person using it. Ride more and you will get faster whichever one you ride.

How many courses have a hill like Noosa, which is more suited to the road bike?

edit: I'll rephrase that: How many courses have a hill like Noosa which lessens the advantage of the TT bike?

Were you doing more high intensity/less IM focused workouts when you got the faster times? I would say it is pretty standard that people get 'slower' when they are training ainly for an IM...

If money is the issue, sell the one that is worth more.

As mentioned, you cant compare category placings from year to year. And even times are a bit useless as conditions are different, maybe you got caught in a bit of traffic on Noosa Pde, maybe you drafted (accidentally of course). So many variables.

And Kona.

And QTS races are nothing. Lots of beginners, part timers etc

Dont be ridiculous. She already advertised the cervelo. If she was reasonble about the price it would have sold and we would have been deprived of the second thoughts thread!

Long live unreasonable expectations and second thoughts. Without those, trannies would be dust

QTS and kona are not equivalent races to compare places!

List them both for sale and sell the first one that sells

James,

There's no place for that type of logic in this place. Consider yourself reported.

But then someone might buy it!

But wouldn't that be the same for my run?

Sell them both, give up tris and take family holidays instead.

But can't you compare bike vs run at each individual course?

Nope. So many variables each time you race.

You overthink things. Just get out there, race hard and have fun.

So you have two bikes - what was the problem again?

Exactly - shouldn't you be at least buying a Mtn Bike as well?? Then think about a track bike :shutup:

As I said earlier, if it is a monetary issue, sell the one worth more.
