Statistics. Similar size field to the others - 20 extra spots. ( I know the extras go to the Japs)

Still the best opportunity to qualify in the region statistically.

You just need to fit the criteria for the allocated spot whether that be by Age group, gender or Nationality.

75 ag spots PLUS 30 japanese spots.

20 more than port and NZ but 35 extra over a normal event.

Probably a few more. I expect based on melbourne there will be 3 spots in your age group. Podium to get a trip to hawaii.

I can hear it ....

Stop typing ... start training!

I can't. I have to wait for Dazz to get back from work! I considered don't a 3am run and leaving the kids alone sleeping, but my concious got the better of me! ! (Thankfully. This obsession is silly! )

Brett you tried those Claytons out yet?

Knee still hurts to walk so once that settles ill give them a good run. Tried them on though, they are as comfortable as slippers really hug the foot nicely with the weight of a racing flat. I cant wait to try them out.

Probably the same or a tad more so you nearly have twice the amount at cairns 2016 than port 2015

I thought u knew this that's why u are going to cairns

Plus port is always the hardest race to Kq as most of the oz guns race there

I did actually. No idea why I typed that? !? Time to ban me Roxii! I'm starting to dribble ... more than usual. My brain is fried. I haven't trained yet today. Going stir crazy. This relaxing is starting to take a toll on me.

Jump in and do a few laps. Elbowing a few kids out of the way is good open water training.

Lol

Care of clearance received from the surgeon for running and riding this morning, I'm in for Cairns. He specifically requested I don't fall off the bike again, genius!

Now swimming will still be a few weeks away but hopefully I can have some form by then, worst case I become croc bait doing breaststroke to get around the course.

Will get to see the cranky have a real good shake at KQ.

Goes to show how much pull the Kona spots had for Melbourne and now have for Cairns. Last year's Cairns race there were less than 1000 competitors, this year it would be close to 1600.

In comparisons I'd guess it was easier to qualify last year than it will be this year.

Always hard to pick based on who turns up on the day, but I'd reckon it will be much easier to qualify this year. In fact I'd say with the 70.3 World Champs being in Australia this year that may also dilute the field of better athletes planning to go to Kona as well. There will still be good athletes competing, but there's more spots and they will probably roll further.

I was really hoping that I'd be able to get back on the bike and put a couple of weeks of training in to make it worth heading to Cairns for this race, but it just isn't happening. I'm jealous and am ruing the missed opportunity to attempt to qualify for the big dance again.

But them's the breaks, sometimes you just can't do everything. Good luck to everyone who's having a go.

So does that mean that if let's say for example I am a 35-39 AG female putting everything in to a one and only attempt at gaining KQ then I would be better racing at the under-subscribed Port IM than the sold-out Cairns IM?

Or if I was an under 25 AG female and wanted to impress potential sponsors through social media by qualifying for the WC, even though jealous people of certain forums keep saying I'm no good, it would be the place to go? :)

I think I fall more in the sour cream category!

Nothing wrong with sour cream, so long as out comes with spud, bacon and cheese!

It depends. If your aa7, or faster than cranky, then nothing wrong with going to Cairns ;)

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm in for IM Cairns too! Nowhere near KQ but hope to better my IM PB on this same race in 2012!

Yes also heard this morning directly from Tammy that the race sold out just yesterday. Around 1300 entered in IM, with around 400 from Japan (although that could be across both IM and 1/2 IM)

Looking forward to smashing a PB in half team (running only) and not ending up in medical again.
