Hearing you Parky, this one is very switched on and is aware of what we deem inappropriate but it is not to say there could be blurry lines, more attention on this stuff from dad going forward. Her mum does the social stuff so between us her account has been vetted for the inappropriate stuff, I would have been told and shown.

Brave new world for dad.

The sports-consuming public in Aus are told what to watch by the network programmers (white, patriarch rule) who are too scared of the short term loss in revenue / ratings to give it a good shot - what programmer would risk his job by airing a sport that hasn't got a proven record for ratings. They would rather solve the issues of damage control and keep prime time hours for Aussie rules even after the doping scandals.

See, this just brings back the painful memory of when Ch7 took over the rights to broadcast triathlon, which had been owned by 10. For 2 years 10 had broadcast every ITU race (multiple times), not always at the best times but who cares, as well as special ITU update programs, and was also broadcasting multiple international IM's and 70.3's a year, as well as Alcatraz.

Since 7 took over, we get Noosa and maybe Mooloolaba each year.

This thread is comparable to those underground independent bands who "know" they're better than anyone else but refuse to go mainstream and sign with a major label. They potter along and do alright with their cult following.

Vs

A band who identifies a gap in the market and "sells out", altering who they "are".. they blow up and are loved by the masses but mocked by those that know "real" music and refuse to listen to them (amongst their friends at least).

Ironically, and I don't know if the aim is to grow this forum, imagine the growth and publicity that some of these people could give the site. Instead, the elitists judge from the sidelines further alienating anyone browsing this site.

You guys and gals sound like a bunch of prudes cyber bullying a young girl for doing something she enjoys. There's no soft porn on her page ffs she wears exercise gear as we all do.

Who has the right to judge what another person can or can't do based on an analysis of their "success"? You guys have been really helpful when I've had questions and learned a lot but I'm out, too much negativity on this site to deal with right now.

Just to cover this Eso (and to repeat from earlier), I did ask Corky on this forum if she could provide some insight into her success, so that others may learn (especially the young pros). I think she even 'liked' my post on this, however her response was for us to ask her on her social media page. Therefore the opposite was seen: there was an attempt to drive the subject away from the forum and towards her pages. It was clear she didn't want to engage here, and I suspect saw this forum as an opportunity to market her page. I have no issue with that, or with any of what the young crowd are doing; I agree on the whole chasing opportunity perspective. However, if the intention was to market herself through this forum, as opposed to contribute, then it has to be seen in the same light as any other vendor who pops-up to advertise their wares, without any real contribution to the community. Note: that's not stating what she's doing is good or bad, but it is calling it what it is: marketing a "product".

Yep...main reason i have an instagram account is so that i can keep an eye on what Miss 12 going on 18 does/posts on instagram...

what is appropriate to post...what is appropriate to do...its a learning curve for them...but they do need the guidance and to be watched....

I really like what Cycling Tips is doing with Ella as well as women's cycling teams such as Canyon. I can see the tide is turning and it's just a matter of time before we see women's events being given more air time on mainstream media due to the push it's getting on the Web.

Excellent point, must confess I hadn't considered that, but I agree. I am hopeful/optimistic that the development of digital television (with its multiple channels) will be significant in helping women's sport & 'minority sports' breakthrough the roadblock of the old programmers.

We've seen it in action with the Women's BBL cricket on Ten. It started off on their secondary channel, but then moved across to the main channel when people started watching what were some very high quality and entertaining games. More sports can hopefully get a 'low risk' entry to television via the secondary channels, and then hopefully get the viewer traction to draw in publicity and sponsors...

And CyclingTips are doing a sensational job... :-)

hey, i wanna know why it says I started this thread? I did no such thing!

Don't complain. This could rival RS's politics thread in a couple of years. You could be as famous as #whatshername.

Some post may read a bit weird but I've restored some posts in a separate thread from Leons.

Carry on.

Consider yourself stronger than the San Andreas Fault Hiltz, you started the split

A previous thread from Leon went off track, one of the other moderators split the posts going off track into this thread

Bullying, really, time for a reality check

The value to the brand is based on her following which are motivated by the airy look at me language and photos that will be called promoting a healthy lifestyle and brand association.

I think there are better ways to advance Cervello's brand awareness and be ethical supporters of women's sport, than sponsor the 591 placed athlete at an ironman.

As long as you and your friends liking these posts continue with your misogynistic attitudes women will be under represented and under valued for their capability and will be valued as they are today, on how they look in a bikini.

On Eurosport here, we get a program in the cycling season called 'Voxwomen' I think it was fortnightly. It was pretty good IMO.

Who do Cervello sell more bikes to? The top 10 in the field or the MOPers/BOPers?

Don't the front runners get their bikes for free? As a hook for us mop/boppers?

Personally, other than a couple of mates, I would never have had a clue what any triathlete rode, and never really cared. It's 99% engine, so I was more interested in how they trained.

So one upon a time whenever a "chick " said something AP disagreed with, he would ask them to post a pic of them in a swimsuit. So by way of that, if you look good in a cossie then ur entitled to an opinion. If not, then ur not.

And how many here are all over AP but poo poo corky?

Its rubbish. Really rubbish.

We got VoxWomen on SBS here as well.

The VoxWomen team have done a great job.

ps:

And they started off with crowd funding to get the first episode up and going.

They've been going strength to strength.

I doubt Corky was given a Cervelo P5 directly from Cervelo. Cervelo are very discerning when it comes to 'freebies'. I'm only guessing, but it's more likely that the store that sold her the bike gave her a good deal on the bike or the components as she lists Zipp and SRAM as some sort of sponsors and Cervelo deck their bikes with Hed wheels and Shimano. It looks like the old #cervelo was more of an attempt to get noticed by cervelo in a bid to get a free S5.

That's the problem with all these fake social media identities. It's all an illusion. Who the hell has the energy to frolic across the nature strip a hundred times until the bf finally gets a shot where there's no hail damage showing when you're training for a bloody Ironman?

It's so far from reality that you can easily call it fraud and would be quite depressing for a lot of young girls to see.

I suggested to First off the Bike to do an 'Age Grouper of the month' story about Matty Lewis who came back from horrific head and hip injuries to win his age group at many IM, 1/2IM etc and Kona Qualify. They told me they would ring Matty but they never did. Instead they do stories about pretty young things which are as boring as batshit. I know which is the far more interesting story that everyone could have learnt from #reallifeismoreinspiringthanfake

I wonder if she will still be in the sport 2 years from now.

Isnt she with the cycos cult? If so give her at least 5yrs.

Then maybe a baby or a real job might slow her.

Agree. TRS should

Most pools these days have the "no cameras/phones' rule to ensure there are no dodgy kiddy shots being taken but it seems like Corky and Mr Corky's pools don't have these rules... or rules about taking photos while riding on the road...

We just have to accept that we are analog men in a digital world.

I have gotten my head around it just but I still like to take the piss out of them probably like they do me! Haha

Just look at all the "up and coming pros" they have blogs and web pages and all the other shit and well look at their results Their mindset is way out in front of their ability.

But hey good on em .

Wonder if that is a better investment that having crowie on the books.

My opinion with nothing to back it up, I'd say yes it is a better investment.

My reasoning is :-

Pro Athlete :- In general, all will require payment & product, will do minimal promotional work, where often it's a still (or video) action shot from competition. They may have a large following but what is their influence over product when they change product according to sponsorship deals.

They can cost vast amounts.

Ambassador style :- In general require minimal payment or product, will do a lot of social media promotion, actively using the product in a real world scenario. They also may have a large following, depending on their ability or creative mind, regular postings and messages they deliver. Their influence is amongst their peers and like minded/ability people. They will respond to their followers which makes them more popular, their peers see them as influential and as a normal person who understands.

The cost to the company, very little.

In my view, Bang for Bucks the Ambassador style wins.

Some will have thousands to hundreds of thousands of followers who I think are more likely to buy the promoted products than they would for the Sporting champion athlete.

Both these types are essentially a travelling sales rep for the company, who is generating the best return?

The Pro Athlete on a million dollar salary or the Ambassador (lets say) 1% of the Pro salary.

Who is more likely to be believed

Pro : "Hey I'm using 'X', it's really good"

Social media brand Ambassador : "Hey I'm using 'X', it's really good"

I think you've nailed it Trev.

Even though it's still advertising, somehow it doesn't seem so blatant when someone 'normal' is promoting a product. I'm much more likely to try something if people I know or can relate to recommend something. If it's a pro, then not so much.

Take Hoka's for example. After much rubbishing of the product, the few threads over the last couple of days has me more accepting to the point I'll try some on tomorrow. You people have shown that it's acceptable. Some of you, anyway.

Although it might have been finding out Bergs was wearing them...

These beer posts have me pretty thirsty. Geez, turns out my weak little mind is easily manipulated.

Edit: I forgot to #hashtag to make my post #official.

I was really close to caving then Ex, but I want to get a run in this arvo. Not really that close, I'm in Tarragindi at home. But Brisbane isn't that big, I'd only be 20 minutes away.
