USA shootings and gun laws

Recommended Posts

Two court bailiffs and the gunman killed in a Michigan courthouse and others injured. The prisoner disarmed a deputy and started shooting.

"At about 2:25 we had a disturbance on the third floor of the courthouse. A person has shot two bailiffs. They're both deceased, and he shot a deputy sheriff who's at the hospital now in the emergency room. The suspect has been shot and killed," he said.

He said "several others" were also at the hospital, in stable condition.

Could he really have thought it would end any differently?

The are nut cases everywhere, but this horrible example shows what a difference it makes when they don't have a gun. A man has gone on a rampage on a train in Germany, injuring 19 with an axe and knives. What could he have done with an assault rifle, or even a hand gun, with people trapped on a train?

It must be frustrating there when you see stories like this, will it exasperate the situation further.

I think it must be OK over there if they are black.

It's only a matter of time before the cops start doing drive by shootings. Natural progression.

That is just wrong.

I know cops do a tough job, especially over there, but this is just ridiculous.

Its like some cops are joining the force just to shoot black people. You would think the cop needs to be cut loose from the force, charged and also taken civilly for that to set a precedent for other cops.

Yep, pathetic, and it has been brought upon themselves by such open gun laws.

Cops go to every job assuming they will be faced with someone carrying a gun so you can foresee where they might be trigger happy. This case however, as per the one in the car last week, are unforgivable.

Geez, I'd hate to be a cop in America - or a black man...

One of my MBA classmates was there and involved in the fleeing masses. Has described it as beyond hell....

When something like this happens more than once, it's no longer a mistake to continue to allow unfettered access to guns. Truly horrific.

Unbelievable they still think more guns are safer. I wonder where all the gun-toting citizens who are going to keep people safe were? I didn't hear him being taken down by a citizen with his trusty 9mm.

Grant Giles in the middle of it all.  Ran into a tattoo parlor and hid.

I have read from gun advocates that the reason why fire wasn't returned was that it was because the shooter was above them. wtf that me and I don't know. still, if I was a person in surrounding rooms I'd be pretty happy a few hundred dudes didn't open up on the location with handguns.

Got some mates in lock down there too. Keeping us posted on WhatsApp.

MH, that's a good point, are all those gun toting wanna be heros actually capable of making a judgement call like that? I wonder how many of them during the incident actually identified the direction of fire, or were told afterwards, and if they had would have returned fire blindly.

Direction finding on in-coming rounds isn't straight forward and the military traines personnel on this and how to respond in detail, yet people still think they can buy a shooter and have at it (or not as this incident proves yet again).

For all their cowboy bluster, most of these dudes would have been hiding under the nearest bed. It's just such a facile argument for allowing mass gun ownership.

My mates are safe, got back to their hotel at 6am, after 7 hours in a theatre, a few of those spend under the seats.

For all the bravado and talk, in the end they do exactly the right thing.  They run and they hide.  And they should.  Just friggin awful.  So far no connection to terror groups.  No criminal record.  Apparently an aussie woman lived with him and they want to talk to her (obviously) when she's back in the country.  IS has claimed responsibility but there appears no links.  58 dead and 500 injured.  One person can do all that on his own......... Killed himself before police entered, and had something like 10 guns in the room.   How can we still be saying WTF to these incidents????

If Sandy Hook couldn't make a difference, nothing can!  Nevada gun laws require no license and no limit on the number of guns, no permit required to buy a gun.  You can openly carry, and are allowed to carry them at polling booths, casinos and bars.  You do need to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon.  You are allowed to own assault weapons and large capacity magazines.

Nothing will change.

Exactly.

Dan Bilzerian is always shooting guns etc on his insta page but posted video of him running away. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4941060/Dakota-Meyer-slams-Dan-Bilzerian.html

At least others have called him out.

And they've found another 18 guns, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and explosives in his house.  And they're about to raid another property.  His brother can't believe he did this.  How in the world can someone amass this amount of weaponry and people have no clue at all about it?

Clearly there is something wrong with me.

I feel extremely sorry for those killed and injured.

But i feel nothing for America and their people.

Saying prayers are with ..  blah blah

but not wanting to remove automatic or semi auto guns is beyond me.

Sure keep your hand guns.

But what person needs a machine gun?

It would be interesting to know the split among the general population of those for and against gun control.

i get what you are saying Pete but if a majority of the population are for greater gun controls but are being thwarted by politicians and lobbyists then you have to feel sorry for them.

Martin Bryant now moves down to number 3 on the all time list. The Norwegian dude still has top position.
