List your top 5 Bucket List Races/Events you PLAN to do.

Recommended Posts

You can name 6 if Kona is in your list.

They don't have to be triathlons. Running. Cycling. Swimming. Adventure.

But only list them if you really plan to do them. Not want to do them.

Time limit to get them done is 2025.

In no particular order:

straddie

yamba

kingie

maybe hervey bay in a moment of weakness

and the piece de resistance: marathon du Medoc (for the uninformed: The course is 26.2 miles through scenic vineyards and the participants – in compulsory fancy dress - are expected to indulge in 23 glasses of the famed vintages en route, while also stuffing themselves with local specialities such as oysters, foie gras, cheese, steak and ice-cream.

By bucket list, do you mean firstly races that you really really want to do, and secondly do you mean races you haven't yet done? Cause that's what bucket list would mean to me.

If that's the case, then my answer is zero. There is currently nothing that has my attention enough that I can't wait to do it that I haven't already done it. Of everything, tour de tri solo was the only thing I really really really wanted and I did that.

I'd like to say Port Mac IM, but I can't really see myself doing it in the next 10 years. But it's the only thing is be hanging out for.

Only 1 this year. The new event at Wyong with Emo (actually it's at Budgewoi). A new Oly distance and staying local with family. Gotta be good.

I want to do a couple of HIMs before the spine finally gives out. I will look for a few around Oz in the next 3 years. Planning from the 2019/2020 season onwards will come at the end of 2018 when I retire from work.

PS: What about you Pete ??

Nice Mr Flower

Well I really want to have a crack at the English Channel. Working with Chloe and Paul but it's more a money thing than anything else.

Then Roth

NYC Marathon with my Wife

The Disney 5/10/21/42 weekend, once again with my wife

And some cycling event. But nothing has interested me so far. Still looking.

For me, it's stuff I either did years back & would like to do again, or stuff from years back that I never did, but should have when I was competitive.

Grafton - Inverell

City to Surf

Noosa - Family team. We won it the 4 years we did it, and would love to do it again. My sister is keen, but I'm still working on my brother.

An Ultra-Marathon - I always wanted to do one, but they weren't as common back then. Once fit again, it's a definite.

Cairns IM

They're not that exciting a group of races, but they mean something to me.

Kona is a maybe, not because I don't know if I'll qualify, but because i don't know if I'll accept.

Nothing too exotic and in no particular order.

Melbourne Ironman - 2018 (I've had 20 years of triathlon to prepare for an IM, might be time to do one)

Lake Eilden Challenge - tiny little race which involves 100km bike, 25 km (paddle), 21 km run - April 2016

French Alps cycling - 2017

Challenge Wanka Half (can't be bothered doing the full but would love to check out Wanka).

Molakai ski race or maybe just the Perth Doctor ski race.

Most of the Alpine climbs I wanted were done last year, with a combination of a training week and Alpine Challenge. But one climb is missing and that is Ventoux.

Event wise for me:

Fred Whitton (applied twice, rejected twice)

Du Normand TT (if still in UK)

Marmotte

Cape Roleur (Sth Africa)

Haute Route

I'd love to do Incredouble Man in the US. Two Half IMs in a weekend.

Escape from Alcatraz.

Tour de France.

Those three probably depend on how the Lotto balls fall tonight.

One that should have been ticked off already but will now have to wait another year or two is Tour Down Under.

Oh, I'd also love to do the Hervey Bay 100. I've done a number of races up there, lived in Childers for 6 months, and love the area.

1. 3 peaks in 2016 - booked!

2. A ride up Alp du'Huez plus a couple of others in Sep-2016, part of a planned France/Switzerland trip.

3. Port Mac IM in 2017 - unfinished IM business after Melbourne withdrawal.

4. Swissman in 2018. I'll be 50 this year so it might be beyond me.

5. Complete an Audax 1000km plus ride. Perhaps 2018 if I miss Swissman, if not 2019.

Hoping the ducks line up for Cozumel next year, have had friends go over there and loved it. Cancun is a nice kicker as well.

As for your top 5, i have done your top 4 as a spectator a couple of times and i'd be telling porkie pies if i said experiencing them as a competitor was off my list

Cairns. Met some Demons on this course.

I have unfinished business.

I remember reflecting after the 70.3 and telling myself that one of the only positives to come out of the day was the fact that i was not completing the full!
