The good news thread

We got a letter from the fertility clinic we used the other day.  We donated our remaining embryo's when we decided to have no more kids and the couple that received them has finally used them all, having so far had two boys (which we already knew about).  But it's given us a combined satisfied yet curious feeling - happy we could help someone else, but now we kinda want to meet them...... which I guess is pretty normal.  Our daughter knows, but our son is a bit of a sensitive soul so we haven't told him yet.

We had a similar experience last week. With me pushing 44 and the missus 37 with a few complications to her name, we went to see the quack who said that everything was "normal" and we may not need the added help. I had already had an analysis of my system and the results came back that I was 15 times greater than the average - Samantha rang pathology to see whether the decimal point was in the right place.

Training has suffered this week, but I've been wearing a smile like a 10 year old all week!

Breakfast with who I consider a legend in Aussie cycling. Brad has been an ambassador for the MS Gong ride for a few years now

Talking about the Gong ride, has anyone ridden their TT bike on the ride ? whilst I prefer to ride the roadie on the day, it is around race time so want to get some Ks in on the TT.

We're bringing a group of 5 riders down to this (no TT bikes though, I'm not riding, Mrs & friends are).  My understanding is it is very casual and controlled with several stops and marshals controlling the speed on downhill sections to minimise risks.

Yeah CN. The last one I did was back about 15 year ago and was fairly casual (for some ). I just want to ride the TT bike for an LSD ride so the body continually gets used it.

Don't forget for you to have fun too.

I wouldn't. If its around race time the most important thing is getting to the start line in one piece.

Id be wanting good access to my brakes at all times with that event and riding a TT rig on the brakes all day isnt real comfy.

And if you see a woman on a red & white EMC smashing it up the hills, but with an annoying tendency to not stick to the left.....that will be my Mrs

I may have fun too - using up my last birthday gift voucher diving with the sharks at Manly aquarium :o

The good news is...the Far South Coast of NSW is a great place to be this time of year. Had to go home to renew my visa so had a week between there and Canberra. Some nice fun runs in Queanbeyan and Broulee in lovely 15-17 degree temps.

What was even better was seeing 8 of my 11 grandchildren.

Like the '50 years time' thread says, things and times are changing. A walk or run thru the bush with stops to hear the bellbirds, lorikeets and gaggle of other species and smell the bush, should not be taken for granted.  Certainly takes me back to when I was a kid.

I actually didn't know where to put this...... in the SSM thread, or the politics thread? But I decided it belongs here.

Thanks to Cory Barnardi being his usual outspoken self against anything that may tweak his homophobic fears, he's fine some great good today. After speaking out against a SA school that was having their annual (not the first time) "do it in a dress" day which raises money for a charity which educated girls in Uganda etc, their donations have gone out of sight. They were hoping to raise $900 today which would help educate 3 girls for a year, but donations are currently at $65k+.

Wouldn't have gotten there without your help CB, ya big douche

Just warms my heart!

Four friends and I caught up over the weekend with a mate who has not been well lately. Most from Sydney and 1 from Brisbane. The 6 of us haven't been together for 30 years. Friday golf and casino, Saturday races and casino, Sunday home from the Gold Coast.

We did nothing but laugh, drink, sing and laugh. Just a cracker of a weekend. Even the Uber driver that drove us to the races wanted to come along.

Old friends are worth their weight in gold.

Learnt a significant lesson about the power of a genuine friendship. For various reasons my bedridden mother has been seperated from her best friend of 50 years for a period of 9 months. Having reunited them today the effects were immediate and quite moving.  In such a fickle society, some things don't change.

First ride yesterday for 625 days!! (Last one 6/2/16 and ended in a crash!!)

Grand total of 26km, completed at the solid average of 24.4km/h.

Gooch feels as if someone has used it as a trampoline, but apart from that it was great to be back out there. Went with a mate I hadn't seen for some time so was a great opportunity to catch up on each others lives.

Might even do it again next weekend.

Had a look at the renovations over the weekend of the new house in Dublin. Jesus, they are making a mess, but it's coming along strong.

Despite the fact that I will only be living in it 3 nights out of 7 and I have to fly in to London for work, am feeling a lot less stressed and a lot more motivated with work, life, family etc. Am also starting to enjoy training again and feel muscles I haven't felt for a while.

If anyone is in the Dublin area, let me know and we'll have a bed there waiting and your choice of G&T or the black stuff!

Gotta say I'm super proud of my 15 year old daughter.

She is doing really well at school but is generally a typical lazy teen who whinges and moans if I dare ask her to walk the 100m or so to the local shop to get bread or milk.

So her school entered the relay for life and she thought she'd go along partly because my mrs survived cancer but mainly because she liked the idea of hanging out with her friends and getting to stay up late.

Well she kicked off at 10am Saturday and was sending us txt updates saying she was still going every hour.

This kept going through the night and the little bugger ended up walking the whole 24 hours solo. She also was the youngest person to walk all 24 hours and also ended up with the furthest distance of any solo competitor walking over two marathons.

Im sure she still won't walk to the shops for me though

That is amazing!!

And the best news is ... when they make it, a bright blue colour, and it is too runny and drip it on the light tan coloured carpet (after you have recovered from the heart attack) it comes out easy! Add water and soak up with paper towel. I used nearly a whole roll as we had a nice little trail. But no stains!

It's me saying this, so no chance it's not gonna be long winded. My best mate passed away about 11 years ago now. I still ride his favourite bike every week (his family gifted it to me).  When we finally got our families together for a BBQ we found out our wives went to high school together.   His youngest daughter and my eldest are the same age. They went to different primary schools and we both school captains at their respective schools. Now they've been at the same high school for the last few years. Both were class captains in their first year. Then they were junior school captain and vice in grade 9. And now both are Sports captains for next year (grade 11).  I know he would be as stoked with this as I am.  The Strange connections between us continue!

Alaways take he positives. A couple of gouges from the doctor revealed some nasty cancers underneath on the top of both my hands. Will be getting rid of the rest in 3 weeks time. More scars but hey,  I am here.

Okay, good news.

I've started dating someone.

He's a triathlete.

Some of you might know him. (Ok, he's told me I can tell you, it's Stikman).

I am very happy. :in_love:

Katz is on the comeback trail.  First race in two and a half years today.  Sprint distance turned duathlon (rough seas this time, not sharks.)

I am being blamed for "making her do it"  (i.e. supporting her in her decision)  and her previous good news may now be negated.
