Well I said I'm looking for a new challenge and this could be it. Depending on the qualifying requirements. I think when I had a quick look when this was first announced they wanted you to have done an IM in the previous 12 months and/or an Ultra Marathon or equivalent. I really hope the 10k swim is in the ocean off Noosa and not in a river or lake.

I was speaking to the organiser when I was up there for the tri last year. His plan was to have the swim in the ocean, around to Hell's Gate and back, or something like that.

maybe come up the beach at A-Bay and squeeze a nudist's boob before the return leg. more interesting than swimming around a buoy

That is awesome.

I was just explaining to my kids last night that when you do something a number of times it becomes less epic, and eventually not that big a deal. They said "what's a big challenge then dad?"

"Ultraman ...", I then explained what it is.

My knees would never carry me the double marathon though, but glad it's growing, glad it's here at last, and keen to see if any Tranny nutcases can GET IT DONE

At that time of year it will be wetsuit legal. So really all you'll need to do is roll your arms over for 3 - 4 hours.

How much will entries be? when will there be a course map?

Entries for ultraman Canada are $1800 us

I think they plan to have a "sample" course map out pre entries opening

I'm

Guessing it will be between 1500 and $2k to enter

Plus another 2k to pay for yours and your crews cost etc

Clash with port mac - following weekend??

Why is that a 'clash'?

That's like saying "3 Peaks is on this weekend, but I've got a crit race next weekend". :shocking::)

Boom.

http://ultramanoz.com

I reckon I'll submit an application for this. Anyone else? I fulfil the criteria of completing an IM in the last 18 months but no idea what my chances are of receiving an invite. Maybe 50/50? Hopefully being a local (almost) and being > 50 might help my chances.

14.30 means just about anyone can do it - hence the $1800 entry fee is suppose as the real barrier

I think what they're saying is that 14.30 is an absolute minimum for entry criteria. I wouldn't be surprised if they get a truckload of entries, only the best CV's will be getting a start.

And as far as 1800 quills being the ONLY barrier!! What about the TRAINING for it, AND actually completing it? :shocking:

The $1800 plus it not being continuous is a drawback. Starting the run on the 3rd day after a break would be hard on my legs and knees...prefer to keep going. In saying that I'll throw in an entry and see what happens...still haven't paid for Port Mac yet!

$1950 Entry fee.

Stick with WTC. This race will fold like origami paper!

I don't agree unless the council stops it.

It will be 70% international.

Limited numbers.

Remember they don't close roads. You support yourself.

They can't lose money. Most of that entry would be insurance I'd guess.

Yep

And I know the council have been less than helpful for this event!

70% international, seriously? By my calculations that would mean about 10 slots for Australian men. My chances of scoring an invite just went down heaps :sleepy:

So, did anyone get their invite? I know of at least 1 ex-clubmate from Melbourne who got in.

SO.. not real interested if someone gets into trouble then ;)

You MUST have a escort craft (kayak or similar) but your not allowed to draft off it or any thing else , swimmers included

Bummer you missed out

Being the first race in OZ the field is pretty good and I believe they received ALOT of applicants

Don't let it put you off for next year though

Or just go to ultraman Canada (cost a lot more obviously ), they haven't been able to sell that race out in the last few years
