2013 Road Races - Running

Recommended Posts

So my wife has a love/hate relationship with triathlon.. In other words, she loves the pre and post-race banter, the socialising and, when she's not stressed at work, the training. She is a great athlete naturally and had a first amatuer and a number of AG podiums this year. She wants to turn her focus a little more to running, however, when we're back in Aus next next year.

With a few friends, she's trying to pick out a few races to focus on. I looked for her on Cool Running and Event List to find a few but I felt there were a number missing.

So, with that said, does anyone have any suggestions for fun/unique road races in NSW for 2013? Any distance, really, from 5k through to a mara. Her preferred distance is 1/2 mara.

What do you guys reckon?

-C2S

-Sydney Running Festival

-SMH Half mara?

-Aus Run Fest in Canberra?

Tah,

Steve

I reckon you've just the chosen the most expensive and largest mass participation runs in NSW/ACT. If that's what your after, fair enough, but there are plenty of good smaller events around.

SMC is good value and well organised. As so, the Sri Chinmoy races, and if your wife likes the post-race social, nothing better than chatting over a few pancakes after finishing.

The country marathons have a friendly atmosphere and most have halves or 10km options as well. Macleay, Mudgee, Hunter Valley, etc.

Sutherland Half along Lady Carrington still attracts road runners, but if your looking for fun and unique, you're more likely to find it in the booming trail running scene. NOSH, Running Wild series, Coastal Classic, etc.

And the Hidden Half (State Champs) out at Lake Gillawarna (near Bankstown), organised by Western Districts Joggers. Scenic and interesting course, good depth of competition for the FOP women, relatively cheap and supporting a long standing club.

Come on up and do the Great Undie Run (it is a "bit" shorter than a 1/2 but more laughs per metre than anything else going).

(and I bought the gold satin for the first prize boxers on Wed :smile1: )

Cheers. She would LOVE trail running it if her ankle didn't roll often. I suppose it'll be up to her and how that goes..

P.s. i name those ones as they're the ones either I or google came up with of the top of our heads ;)

Plenty of good ones here guys. I'll show the mrs this weekend so she can get pumped!

Ratdog: Mrs steve_c won't be flying in until first week of Jan, in all likelihood. I'll get there before Chrissy so I might jump in on that one myself, looks like fun :smile1:

Anyone know of a good 5km run in March/April/May in or within a few hours of Sydney? Something with a bit of atmosphere and an OK field?

A bit further afield. The point to pinnacle in hobart. Its half marathon distance from wrest point to top of mt wellington, which is about 1250m above sea level. Raced late november. It's somewhat unique for oz, except for first km the rest is a constant uphill.
