but you would think if the team is in the top 5, thats not bad and sacking a coach at this time spells doom for them to get to the finals.

Have the board been taking the advice of some Pakistani Bookmakers?

Cleary's off contract shortly, what better way to keep him on board than to make way for dad.

Was there a conflict between the coach and "numerous members of staff" or a conflict between the coach and Gould.

Call me Nostradamus but Penrith just offered Ivan Cleary a 4 year contract.

Jeez as a Tigers supporter... this sucks. Just when we thought we might have a bit of stability...

So much for "On the bus"

Anyways here's hoping Cleary stays. Though in rugby league there is NEVER smoke without fire.

The Anthony Griffin interview on NRL 360 was very good.  Confirms what moron Gould has become.

Need you cronulla residents to find out if Fifita has met the HIA protocols and plays this weekend .

Fifita slurred the last word of the 10 minute HIA after he stayed down to earn a penalty. HIA assessments are video recorded as they are performed by club Dr for NRL audit and Dr had no discretion, had to rule him out. He went berserk at being ruled out. I would be very surprised if he has not progressed through the protocol and you should put the housekeeping on him playing

I think beating Melbourne has become more satisfying than beating Manly :teehee: (not that we seem to ever achieve the later).

The ref did his best to penalise the Sharkies into oblivion, but you gotta expect that playing Melb in Melb

The skills & athleticism in NRL has gone thru the roof in the last decade, some of the tries down the touchlines are simply amazing.  Makes RU look like sumo jelly wrestling in leg irons.

Melbourne are definitely the new Manly.  Mostly because of Smith, Slater and Gould.  Certainly made 2016 all the sweeter

Can anyone remember the last time Melbourne scored and Bee Sting Head didn't say 'UN - BELIEVABLE?'

Still, my life would be complete if the Sharkies beat the Silver Tails in a GF.....preferably by 1 point in Golden Point Extra Time after Manly finished minor premiers & the Sharks in 8th.

I was all set to tell my St George supporting mate to take Josh Dugan back at half time y'day till he redeemed himself with a 2nd half try.  Aaron Woods looks a bit cooked too. Valentine Holmes is a legend, what a natural & exciting player.  Feki & Erdic Lee also so v talented.  And even if Gallen shits non-Sharkie fans and they boo him relentlessly, you can't deny the bloke is a brick in the middle (and fcuk em anyway cos I like him :P).

Agreed, but that scenario would make my life a bit awkward

Every team needs a Paul Gallen, but we're the only team which has one.  Everyone else can suffer in their jocks  :)

My sister is. Her husband has a shrine in their house with a probably close to a thousand items of supporters paraphernalia. Even has a shot of himself in a Manly jersey holding up the Provan-Summons Trophy.

The footy last night went dead to script.

Sharks win unconvincingly at home against bottom placed Cowboys (would have been convincing except 2 disallowed Sharks tries for obstruction, in both cases the supposededly obstructed defender had absolutely no chance of stopping the try.  This rule has become the biggest joke in NRL & will cost a team a premiership).

And of course, Wallabies lose convincingly to All Blacks

Yep, obstruction and bunker is another nail in the coffin. Makes it hard to pay to attend when you see crap calls like that, play the ball penalties and crap like scrum clocks etc. Cronulla should have been 12 in front at half time. neither "obstruction" disadvantaged the defender, the second one Holmes stepped inside the defender who was supposedly obstructed. In neither case was the defender unfairly impeded. Happens every game now. Bunker has no football sense. Very frustrating to watch.

Id say an even bigger joke is the penalties teams rountinely give away when defending on their tryline and see they are at a disadvantage/short one side so a player holds on, disrupts play the ball or leave line early in defense, for no real punsihment excpet to be told after 4-5 penalties a sin binning is imminent.

I think one penalty is fine, but if you infringe again in the next set of 6, that player should be made to stand behind the deadball line for the next set of 6.  Happens again in that set, player stands with the first player etc.  Make them real short for a defense set and watch the easy try being scored, should make them tidy up and let the game flow.

P.S. Did the All Blacks even get out of second gear?

True.

Nope, All Blacks cruised it once they awoke from their slumber.

5 minute sin bin for penalty conceded inside your own quarter? That would stop it pretty quick

How do we fix the smug, grinning long walk to the sin-bin though? That really gives em to me.

Not sure whether they do it any more, but when I played touch, you used to have to stand behind the line, like mentioned before.

I could just imagine Inglis doing his goanna slide straight up to the sin-binned player's feet after scoring against a team that's a man down. Or any of the players doing their post try antics directed straight at the sin bin.

Any kind of punishment to kill it off would be better than the current model.

Watching Munster stroll leisurely off the field on Friday night after being sin binned was not a great look. Time wasting like that is taking away from teh action and ultimately cheating fans.

I didn't think it wasted time, as the ref doesn't blow time back on till he is off the field. Yes it does slow the game, but they don't lose time.

Sorry i didnt mean time off the clock, i meant just time so his team mates could suck in some air and give them a rest and chance to reset.  Didn;t matter anyway, Football Gods gave Parra every opportunity to win that game, they just couldnt take advantage which i guess is the tale of their season.

So what's the goss on the salary cap breaches ?

News is saying possible breach (3rd party payment) of $50K in 2017 and several hundreds of thousands in 2017, but 2016 looks clean so far.:o  They self-reported the breaches apparently.

As much as I love RL, fark they are dumb!

They self-reported the $50k, but it appears the NRL auditors have found the couple hundred thousand. That would have been a F...k moment for the Sharks.

Buzz Rothfield blew the story because his feelings were hurt that the sharks didn't sack Fifita and Dugan for speaking the truth last week. 3 month old story.

Most players sign contracts for multiple years, a clubs ability to sign or retain a player by being able to offer a larger the permitted amount over the course of their contract has a big influence. Just because they are deemed to be OK for one of the three years doesn't mean they weren't still advantaged in 2016.

Fittler came out with a good point. Who are they cheating with out of cap payments? Brisbane probably pay a few million a year in 3rd party deals, most other clubs can;'t go near that so they are still overall spending way less than Brisbane.

My tinfoil hat says Barba copped a sling for going away quietly in 2017. Has to be Ennis in 2015?

If the sharks get over the top of the roosters I'll be more convinced. Val Holmes has been in stunning form.  As youd expect from a qlder.

Agree Merv, Val Holmes is great to watch in his current form.  The two Sharks wingers (Lee, Feki) are also incredible athletes.  I was a bit suss on Dugan after his first match errors, but since then he's been a try-scoring rock.

The Roosters are one of those 'could go either way teams' for the Sharks, whereas I was hoping they'd get the Storm in this match, as they have them bluffed....and thank Christ they did not get the Broncos, who like Manly and the Bulldogs are their voodoo teams (but not last week).
