Maitland Triathlons

Recommended Posts

While many events come and go, since 1994 the Maitland Tri has plugging away on the second sunday in October rain hail or shine. With strong local clubs in Maitland, Newcastle and Port Stephens this triathlon always attracts a solid local feild and plenty of competitors from Central Coast and Sydney. The event has hosted many of the countries/worlds best triathletes with Peter Robinson just beating Craig Alexander in 2002. The race director was a bit unsure who Alexander was when he asked for a comp entry. "So you go all right i asked", " yeh a race a bit" he said. He coughed up his entry fee and got second. Rebecca Keat, Mel Ashton and Lisa Marangon have all been hear to pick up some prize money. Plenty more too.

The event is staged at historic Morpeth where the run and cycle leg run through the main street and close the bridge during the process. There are two tris (1/30/8 TRINSW Club Distance Champs) and 1.5/55/12 Mid Distance event. There is also a 1.5km River Swim event on Saturday arvo and 4 and 8km fun runs on Sunday. All run from the boat ramp park next to the river. A great spot and a race that just won't go away.

If you are keen to race it's well over half full with a 450 race limit across both events, so don't delay Maitland Triathlon and MultiSport Festival

Hope to see you up here. The cows and magpies are loaded and ready!
