I had to cancel my appointment today due to a bout of sniffles & sore throat I've picked up. While I was online cancelling it I noticed you can look at your Blood Pressure/Haemoglobin stats for each appointment over the last 3 years. If you're a regular donor it's a good way of keeping track of these measures.

Good to know. Thanks. I always put it in my phone but now I don't have to!

Well done Roxy. I'll be having a double date with my daughter in 9 weeks (unless I get sick between now & then).

I will be giving my 200th, and she's excited about giving her first. She's always been terrified of needles, but said she is actually looking forward to it now, and unless something terrible happens, she wants to keep donating after this. She said it was the perfect reason to go in and start.

And no heat pad?

I love the heat pads. Especially after an hour in sub 20 degree water just before the donation. The back of my elbow & my shoulder are the only warm parts of my whole body. :)

They are the absolute bomb. You should ask for one. They assist with blood flow as well as just feeling good on a Winter morning.

Girls must think alike. This is the text I got back when I sent the photo to my daughter while I was there.

The guy that sits beside me at work (and is finishing up in 3 days) is at 245, and my brother (who's on this forum) is  250 - 300. They've both slowed now, so I'm in chase mode. I've made 59 donations in the last 3 years, so I may get them in 5 or 6 years. Who said IM was a long event? :)

Ours had a sign giving instructions as to how to take an insta-worthy shot. And the nurse took the pic for us as my selfie skills are rudimentary at best.

I've spent whole donations on phone hook-ups. I time my donations so I'm hooked up by 8am and I can get a 30min call in before it's finished. A few of the regulars have their laptops out as well.

Had to cancel mine last week. I have a cold. And then I need to wait 2 weeks from the day I am well until I can give again. It's still hanging on. Could be a while :(

I bled again today. I'm delaying my next donation 3 days so I can donate with my daughter for her first, but if I'd been going on the Friday like normal, it would have been a big day at the blood bank. The lady in the chair to the left of me today was giving her 99th, and the guy to the right was giving his 299th. Friday week and they'll both be celebrating milestones. I'll do mine the Monday following.

I walked in at 7:50. I do left arm so sit against the windows. I was next to the old guy (looks older than me anyway) with grey hair and beard. Did you give whole blood or Plasma?

And I don't look anything like a legend any more. :)

Great morning this morning. My daughter came in and gave her first donation, and I gave my 200th. She did so well, and got through the whole blood donation and waited for me out in the dining area. She was all good until I came out and popped the hole in my arm and blood came out everywhere. She thinks it was the smell, but by the time I was getting cleaned up, she was back in the donation room laying down with her feet up and a cold press on her head.

Not enough to deter her though, and she is looking forward to another donation in 3 months and then swapping over to Plasma. Champion.

Bloody awesome mate, both of you.

Just think how many lives you have positively impacted with those 200 donations.  Well done mate.

So, after 102 weeks, I got to donate again. Which means I could give plasma and not whole blood. :D

Back to platelets in 3 weeks.

Taken a bit to get to the first plasma donation as Bel had to get the all clear from a couple of melanoma removals, but we are both booked in for a date night Thursday night.

Hope they have the sosso rolls on order and ready to go.

I’m pretty significantly iron deficit apparently. Reckon I could do plasma instead for whole blood for a bit.

They still want your iron levels up even with plasma (Guess how I know)
But it depends on how low you mean by low.

Ah ok. Might be time to give donations a miss for a while. Ferritin = 11. Doc wants to do infusions.

Haem was low at 112 but within a month had gone up to 121. But the ferritin is bad mostly.

11 isn't 'too' bad (female rates are supposed to be 15-150)
Males should be 30-300
Mine sat on 7 for 2 months without supplementation (And the doc wasn't considering infusions, although the gasto specialist nearly enforced it)
