Year of first Tri race?

Found 40 results

  1. The rumours were right. The old Maitland Triathlon is back at Morpeth on 12 Nov. After 5 years on the shelf it has been rebooted as a Standard (Olympic) Distance Triathlon with swim in river (yes it is actually fine to swim in), 40km ride out Duckenfield way and new run leg out to Brush Farm Rd and Pitnacree Rd. Flat and fast. The compound is beside the river. Super Early bird entries are now open, but only to 31 Aug. Organisers have invited former Maitland Triathlon Club member, Olympic Triathletes Aaron Royal to attend the race. Royal hopes to be in the Country after the Neapean Triathlon 2 weeks early. Over the event’s life it has attracted many famous Triathletes including former World and Olympic champions Peter Roberston, Craig Alexander, Brendan Sexton and Belinda Granger. We hope to see you at Morpeth on Sunday 12 Nov. Info and entries at www.maitlandtriathlon.com.au
  2. Global Triathlon Network

So the guys behind the Global Cycling Network have created a new youtube channel. Global Triathlon Network. I really enjoy GCN, so hopefully the quality of that channel is similar on the GTN! https://www.youtube.com/user/globaltrinetwork
  3. There are plenty of football, soccer, or rugby video games but still no triathlon video game as far as I know. So I decided to create one for smartphones and tablets! The idea is to manage a national team during several seasons (men or women, olympic distance to ironman) and playing races in 3D. The management part will consist of training plans, equipment improvement, coach recruitment... During the simulated races, you will control your triathletes strategy and effort intensity. I'm also considering adding a Challenge mode, gathering several races for an overall standing, and in which management would only consist of training plans. This game would be sold on iTunes and GooglePlay. I would really appreciate your feedback and suggestions for the first triathlon video game! Thanks! I attached 'work in progress' screenshots.
  4. Hi all. Long time lurker, first time poster - hopefully I haven't broken any forum rules by posting this.... Just about to kick off my training for the tri season with the aim of doing my first ironman sometime next year so I'm getting my gear together. I'm trying to get recommendations on some kind of SPF 'swim top' for a man. I'd like to do a few lunchtime base-building swims at my work, and don't really fancy lathering up on sunscreen for a 20 minute swim and after something functional that will not be too much of an impedance in the water. Nor do I really want to bring my tri suit to work. I've been looking at what speedo offer in terms of 'sun tops' (see here for example) - but these seem to be like tops you'd wear doing water sports rather than something you train in. Has anyone used a sun top while training and can make any recommendations? Many thanks in advance, Daz
  5. Is triathlon a "skill" sport?

Watching a bit of the golf this morning before heading off for work. Im a crap golfer but love watching it. I struggle to get my head around these guys ripping it 300 yards and being able to then "choose" to draw it back, or watch them go "around" a tree. Now lets not argue about whether we consider golf to be a sport or not, but is triathlon a "skill" sport? Cycling and running for the most part are rewarded by hard work not so much skill, swimming has technique involved but again this seems to be about a lot of hard work as well. Lets say these are the definitions: Based on these, if Tri has "skills" involved what are they? Is the swim, ride and run the "technique" Are things like "race craft" or "race pacing" the skill or putting the three "techniques" together the skill?? Would also be keen to get coaches opinions on this one.
  6. First Tri / Aero bike pick

Hi I've just joined the triathlon family, completing the Trithegong Olympic distance. I competed on a Cell road bike I found in a bin... Just changed the front wheel and the pedals. The problem is that the frame is a size 59.5cm and I'm 1.73m. Hence the urgency to find a new bike since I registered to the Port Stephen Olympic and Cairns Ironman 79.3. I spent my Saturday morning going from one bike shop to another in Sydney. I want a bike a can train and race with. I short listed 3 bikes that suit my budget ($4,000 max for the bike and race wheel - if the bike is not already equipped): - Felt AR3 - $2,700 (Ultegra / Shimano RS31) - Cervelo S3 - $3,800 (Ultegra / Mavic Cosmic Elite S) - Giant Propel Advanced Pro 1 $3,700 (Ultegra / Giant P-SLR0 Aero; 55mm deep full-composite ) Can I please ask you expert advise? Any tip or experience is welcomed as I can't make my mind. Re the Felt I would maybe add and extra set of wheels to race. Also with my height being in between 51 cm and 54 cm, is there a best option considering the type of usage I will have. Thanks a lot for your help, I know choosing a bike is personal but I'm not familiar enough with the technical side of things to make a quick decision. Thom

  24. Triathlon Clubs in Sydney

Hi everyone, I have just recently moved to Sydney (Potts Point to be precise) and I need your help on the following: My story: I am 31 that wants to start practicing triathlon. I am an average runner, I did some half marathons and marathons, but that's it. In terms of cycling I know just the basic. In terms of Swimming, that's definitely where I will struggle, I know how to swim, but... just, well, you understand. My short term goal: Be able to complete a small triathlon in 2013 and/or to improve my (lack of) skills in swim and cycle. My medium term goal: Half-Iron Man My long term goal: in 3 years time, to be able to complete the Iron Man. My schedule preference: I work mon-fri 8am to 5pm. I am available from then onwards. My problem: To find the most appropriate club near Potts Point or in Sydney that can help me to achieve these objectives. Yes, I know that it will be almost impossible and it will require lots of work. But I am committed and I just need a very good starting point. I have been searching on the internet and there are several websites with a list of all the triathlon clubs in Sydney. However I just need your honest opinion and experience on those clubs, since I have just recently moved to Sydney and I need some guidance. Thank you for your time! Manuel
