    With just over four weeks to HOTW - it's time to get on it This is the best race on the calendar to set you up for a good season - I've looked back over my most outstanding years in this sport and the years where I placed in my age group in Hawaii, the year started with a better than usual result in HOTW - I have done HOTW 24yrs in a row and some years I had better results than others If you've been to HOTW and had a less than satisfying result, it was not Goondoowindi's fault, it was your fault, you either let yourself down mentally and let the conditions get to you, or you didn't prepare as well as you should have - the answer is to go back and face your fears - your strength as an endurance athlete is gained by beating your demons - the more demons you face and beat - the fewer demons are left out there to challenge you There is no better race to prepare you for a good Ironman season - a good Ironman is 70% mental - mental strength is gained by facing the greatest challenges - face them early in the season and nothing will phase you as the season unfolds The other thread on 2018 goals is full of excuses and soft targets - if you're serious about real goals for 2018 - get out to Gundi and start the season on the right foot

INGREDIENTS 6 cups rolled oats 2 cups shredded coconut ½ cup roughly chopped raw almonds (with skin) ½ cup roughly chopped macadamia nuts 1/3 cup pumpkin seeds 1/3 cup sunflower seeds 20g cinnamon 10g nutmeg 20g ground wattle seeds ¼ cup maple syrup (real, not fake) 2 tablespoons virgin olive oil 20g brown sugar 10g vanilla extract (real, not essence) 1/2 cup dried figs, chopped 40g glace rye-berries OR cranberries Preheat oven to 180° (160°C fan-forced). In a large deep roasting tray combine oats, coconut, almonds, macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, cinnamon, nutmeg and wattle seeds together, mixing until well combined. In a separate bowl, combine maple syrup, oil, sugar and vanilla. Mix maple syrup mixture into the oats mixture. Evenly spread mixture and place in preheated oven for 15 mins, turning every 5 mins, to prevent muesli catching and burning. Remove from oven and sprinkle over figs and cranberries, stirring until well combined. Return oven tray to oven and cook for a further 5 to 10 mins, stirring after 5 minutes, to prevent muesli catching and burning. Cool completely before storing in an airtight container. Makes a couple of weeks worth. Serve with milk of choice, vanilla yogurt, banana or fruit and honey. Hohoho
