I went for a ride today, with a set of mad fiber tubulars. I lent my regular ksyriums to my dad while his wheels are in the workshop, but I wanted to go pedalling today and those were what I was left with. I can see where the MAMIL's are coming from with the carbon wheels thing. There is just something about riding an awesome set of wheels that makes me want to do it every day. I wasn't riding fast, but I felt fast. I looked great in every window I rode past, thankfully I couldn't see my hairy legs in the reflection, and the tint was dark enough that I looked like I had some semblance of a tan. They made spinning through the climbs pleasurable when they should have been mildly distressing for my current fitness level. I felt so secure on the slight descent I went down that, and I loved the speedo keeping on creeping up. And then I spent an hour in a cafe drinking a single cup of coffee (in fairness I was on the phone for 2 work calls which took 30 minutes each) sitting there in my lycra looking awesome. I gave most of the riders I saw the 'opposite direction nod', which was against the MAMIL regulations though. I reckon only 50% returned the salutation. I can remember, not that long ago, when you could ride up to someone and have a 3 hour chat to someone you didn't know and never learn their name. I reckon I did all the typical cyclist wanker things today, except ignore the other riders on the road. I don't know where I was going with this post, I guess I just wanted to let you all know I had fun playing with some nice toys on a nice day.
