We with a tear in our eye we pushed delete on the Maitland Tri. Just too hard and too risky to justify the time to continue. 18 years was fun and thanks for coming to the Hunter to race. Upward and onward to clean consistent water, good roads (albeit a bit hilly!!!), minimal traffic and a great venue on the lake. Welcome to Lake St Clair near Singleton in the Hunter Valley. www.huntervalleymultisportfestival.com.au Singleton in the Hunter Valley NSW will this year play host to a vibrant new sports festival aiming to promote the importance of a healthy work life balance to the industrious city. Set to run on the 9th-1th of November 2012 the Hunter Valley Coal Belt Multisport Festival will run over the course of 3 days and include 6 diverse events of varying difficulty aimed at getting citizens off the couch and into an active weekend. Novice and recreational athletes are invited to enter the Singleton Sunset Twilight Fun Runs on the evening of Friday 9th November. Event organizers are offering two very achievable distances (4km and 8km), both set to take athletes on an enjoyable track through the scenic civic precinct on Singleton. Families and walkers are also encouraged to enter and will be accommodated for. On Saturday the 10th November the Festival will pick up its pace with an early morning Royal Pain 57km Mountain Bike Race into Mountain Royal National Park, Saintly Swim -1500m Open Water Swim at Lake St Clair and 20 and 10km Kayak Cove Races. In the afternoon all children are invited to enter the Country Kids Triathlon, and give multisports a go! On Sunday 11th November the main event, the Hunter Hillyman Triathlon, will take place at Lake St Clair. The course will live up to its name with a challenging cycle course. The triathlon event will offer an Olympic Distance (1500m swim, 40km Cycle and 10km Run) and also an Enticer Distance (300m swim, 10km Cycle and 3km Run) catering for both amateur and elite athletes. It is expected that a large number of the Hunter and intestate triathlete community will attend guaranteeing a challenging competition for all entrants. Event Organizer Paul Humphreys stated today that “The Hunter Valley Coal Belt Triathlon is something that we as organizers are very excited about and it definitely shaping up to be one of the best events on the regional multisport calendar.”Mr Humphreys, a regular organizer of sports events in the Hunter, said that due to a number of ongoing issues with the now cancelled Maitland Multisport Festival, the new location provides all involved with a new solution. He further stated that “although the cancellation of the Morpeth race is disappointing in some respects, the new location in Singleton offers an answer to many of the problems we’ve had to deal with, including the deterioration of the bank of the Hunter River. Despite this we are very much looking forward to working with the people of the Singleton community and providing them with what will undoubtedly be a fantastic festival.” Festivals of this nature are increasing in popularity among the multisports community and have proven themselves to be a great medium to provide an event catering to all athletes, novice or elite. More information about the Festival, including major and minor sponsorship opportunities can be obtained by contacting Race Director Paul Humphreys at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 49348138. The event website will be on line soon at www.huntervalleymultisportfestival.com.au
