  2. Hi everyone, I have just recently moved to Sydney (Potts Point to be precise) and I need your help on the following: My story: I am 31 that wants to start practicing triathlon. I am an average runner, I did some half marathons and marathons, but that's it. In terms of cycling I know just the basic. In terms of Swimming, that's definitely where I will struggle, I know how to swim, but... just, well, you understand. My short term goal: Be able to complete a small triathlon in 2013 and/or to improve my (lack of) skills in swim and cycle. My medium term goal: Half-Iron Man My long term goal: in 3 years time, to be able to complete the Iron Man. My schedule preference: I work mon-fri 8am to 5pm. I am available from then onwards. My problem: To find the most appropriate club near Potts Point or in Sydney that can help me to achieve these objectives. Yes, I know that it will be almost impossible and it will require lots of work. But I am committed and I just need a very good starting point. I have been searching on the internet and there are several websites with a list of all the triathlon clubs in Sydney. However I just need your honest opinion and experience on those clubs, since I have just recently moved to Sydney and I need some guidance. Thank you for your time! Manuel

  9. One for our Yeppoon triathletes and or the history buffs. We're looking to chase down two sets of results as we rebuild the Yeppoon and X-Tri websites. If you have a soft copy or hard copy of the original race, (1999 - full and half distance) and the 2006 Half Ironman race results we'd love to get a copy of them to bring the results page up to date... Unfortunately the first event's results are hard to find whilst 2006 were lost in a server transfer some years ago and neither we nor the timing company have a record (too many lap tops and hard disks gone to IT heaven in that time!) Message or email me via nick@x-tri.com.au if you can assist.
  10. We with a tear in our eye we pushed delete on the Maitland Tri. Just too hard and too risky to justify the time to continue. 18 years was fun and thanks for coming to the Hunter to race. Upward and onward to clean consistent water, good roads (albeit a bit hilly!!!), minimal traffic and a great venue on the lake. Welcome to Lake St Clair near Singleton in the Hunter Valley. www.huntervalleymultisportfestival.com.au Singleton in the Hunter Valley NSW will this year play host to a vibrant new sports festival aiming to promote the importance of a healthy work life balance to the industrious city. Set to run on the 9th-1th of November 2012 the Hunter Valley Coal Belt Multisport Festival will run over the course of 3 days and include 6 diverse events of varying difficulty aimed at getting citizens off the couch and into an active weekend. Novice and recreational athletes are invited to enter the Singleton Sunset Twilight Fun Runs on the evening of Friday 9th November. Event organizers are offering two very achievable distances (4km and 8km), both set to take athletes on an enjoyable track through the scenic civic precinct on Singleton. Families and walkers are also encouraged to enter and will be accommodated for. On Saturday the 10th November the Festival will pick up its pace with an early morning Royal Pain 57km Mountain Bike Race into Mountain Royal National Park, Saintly Swim -1500m Open Water Swim at Lake St Clair and 20 and 10km Kayak Cove Races. In the afternoon all children are invited to enter the Country Kids Triathlon, and give multisports a go! On Sunday 11th November the main event, the Hunter Hillyman Triathlon, will take place at Lake St Clair. The course will live up to its name with a challenging cycle course. The triathlon event will offer an Olympic Distance (1500m swim, 40km Cycle and 10km Run) and also an Enticer Distance (300m swim, 10km Cycle and 3km Run) catering for both amateur and elite athletes. It is expected that a large number of the Hunter and intestate triathlete community will attend guaranteeing a challenging competition for all entrants. Event Organizer Paul Humphreys stated today that “The Hunter Valley Coal Belt Triathlon is something that we as organizers are very excited about and it definitely shaping up to be one of the best events on the regional multisport calendar.”Mr Humphreys, a regular organizer of sports events in the Hunter, said that due to a number of ongoing issues with the now cancelled Maitland Multisport Festival, the new location provides all involved with a new solution. He further stated that “although the cancellation of the Morpeth race is disappointing in some respects, the new location in Singleton offers an answer to many of the problems we’ve had to deal with, including the deterioration of the bank of the Hunter River. Despite this we are very much looking forward to working with the people of the Singleton community and providing them with what will undoubtedly be a fantastic festival.” Festivals of this nature are increasing in popularity among the multisports community and have proven themselves to be a great medium to provide an event catering to all athletes, novice or elite. More information about the Festival, including major and minor sponsorship opportunities can be obtained by contacting Race Director Paul Humphreys at paul@hevents.com.au or call 49348138. The event website will be on line soon at www.huntervalleymultisportfestival.com.au

    ITU Stockholm Sprint

Anyone watch the race today? Looked like a very tough race with a crit style bike course, cobblestones and a few hills thrown in on the run. Very exciting to watch! Pretty impressive performance by the Aussies with Royle out of the water in 4th place and stayed with the lead bunch for the whole ride and Dan Wilson working hard on the chase pack and having a pretty good run. Gomez had another incredible run coming for behind to finish second but it looked like he was going to get J Brownlee but ran out of real estate. Just about to start watching the women now...
  12. 2XU Falls Creek Triathlon to be staged in 2014. @SuperSprintAus will now be staging the 2XU Falls Creek Triathlon every two years from 2014. The inaugural event was staged in 2011 and captured national interest for its challenging and spectacular course with a limited field of 650 entrants. This year the event hosted the 2012 Australian Long Course Championships but it was unfortunately scheduled with another long course event. Consequently only 350 athletes raced at Falls which pressured the financial viability of the Event. "We are certainly disappointed as it is a special race and we did a lot of work with Falls Creek Resort Management to get it off the ground. We do thank all the athletes that supported the event over the last two years. At Falls, we really only have a window of a month to stage the event so it is very hard to compete with the Ironman brand at Geelong. We hope that by staging it bi-annually we will see 650 triathletes up for the Falls challenge. Our focus this season will go towards developing the Long Course event at the Gatorade Triathlon Series, Portarlington, which is one of the best courses in Australia that regularly receives positive feedback from athletes. This year we will be increasing the field limit from 300 to 400 and look forward to providing competitors with another great long course event." said David Hansen, Director at SuperSprint. 14. So we have the Sydney Triathlon in about 5 weeks and for a lot of us who have raced the Kurnell series this is the next big race. I've never done an Olympic distance tri before (nor have trained for one) so am looking for some general insights into your training routine. For those who have been focusing on sprints up until now, what and how will you change your training? I'm specially interested in what your key swim, bike and run sessions are and how are they different from what you are currently doing. Cheers Rog
  15. Well I just received an email from Triathlon NSW general manager Phil Dally and have to say I am impressed. It clearly explains the situation with the rain and how that affects the Kurnell race on the weekend, what TriNSW and National Parks are doing to minimise the impact on everyone involved, and it even outlines what the contingency plan is in case the swim is cancelled because of high levels of polution in the bay. If you haven' received it, here's a copy and paste for your reading pleasure...

  18. Hey guys, Here's a great interview with Jeff Symonds, a 25 year old Canadian who recently finished 3rd at the Ironman 70.3 World Champs in Vegas 2 weeks ago. This is an astounding result, especially considering Jeff has only been training for Triathlons for 4 years and was a huge underdog in that race. In this interview, Jeff shares some of his success secrets and strategies which you can apply to your own training. http://www.thefeelgoodlifestyle.com/half-ironman-world-championship-medalist-reveals-success-secrets.html
