The OFFICIAL 2011 Kona Race Day Thread

Story on TA website Congratulations to Craig Alexander for his outstanding victory in the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii! Craig Alexander broke the course record in claiming his 3rd Hawaiian Ironman World title minutes ago. The 38year old Cronulla and Colorado local completed the 3.8km open watersurf swim in 51mins, 180km torturous bike ride in 4hr 24mins and 42km full marathon in 2hrs 44mins. Craig now becomes the 3rd person in the race's history to win 3 times and the most accomplished Australian. Craig also becomes the first person in history to win the World Half Ironman and Ironman World titles in the same year following his record breaking season in the US. Alexander remains in the medical tent after struggling with the heat and severe cramping over the last 3 km's having his winning margin eroded to just 8mins as he willed himself with the support of the the Kona crowd. Craig missed his only opportunity to compete on Australian soil earlier in the year with a severe virus that resulted in stress fractures to his ribs and is looking forward to getting home to celebrate with athletes and supporters from across the country who sent well wishes. An athlete without peer, a living legend of his sport and a very proud Aussie. Triathlon Australia would also like to congratulate fellow Australians Pete Jacobs and Mirinda Carfrae who both took the silver medals. Full story coming soon...!

    2011 Potr Mac Race day

Tough but ultimately satisfying day. PB at Port (from 5 finishes) and 4th fastest time (from 12 finishes). Fabulous support from so many people on the day. Huge thanks to run Coach Chris Southwell who is such a class act. Tudj

    Vote 1 - Jabba

Jabba is misunderstood. Behind the facade displayed on this forum, he is a rational and well intentioned individual. He cares about our sport and, on this forum, he just wants to make sure that he has our full intention before sharing his thoughts. Modern corporates embrace "diversity of thought" because it forces thinking outside existing paradigms. The suggestion that Jabbs run for President is not as silly as some might think. Tudj

    Kurnell - 16 Jan

TriNSW should not have put on its Kurnell race on the same day as Emos. It will not happen again. SPT
