  1. That was really bad coverage. How hard is it to position a finish line camera? And looks like Brownlee is off to Kona!
  2. I hope you keep us updated on your progress Willie. just interested in how you plan to drop 20kgs with no crazy diet?? i personally don't drop weight from cycling so was wondering what your secret was!

    Port - Race Day

Is there somewhere to watch the finish line at Port live? The link on Facebook Live was excellent but they have now switched over to IM Arizona, so I was wondering if there was another way of watching it.
  5. Staying near Hyde Park. But happy to travel. Am just looking for somewhere to swim where it's not going to be 10 to a lane and sharing with walkers.
  6. Can anyone recommend the best place to do some laps in the morning in Sydney CBD? (as a one-off)
  7. Have just started a new triathlon club in the Southern Highlands, and we are really keen to grow the number of juniors that take up the sport. I love seeing other clubs at races (like Shellharbour and Illawarra) who have large numbers of junior triathletes all decked out with the good gear. The biggest impediment we are facing from parents is the cost of buying a racing bike just for triathlons or bike races. So my question is - is there an affordable way to buy tri bikes for juniors? Any websites or bike shops that you would recommend? What do the bigger clubs do?

    Bowral.Juniors

Hi Mike, We have a new triathlon club that has started up in Bowral this year - Highlands Triathlon Club. We have already got a good range of abilities in the club, and have a relationship with AP10 coaching, based in Wollongong. We have a couple of kids that have ability - they have the opportunity to try out and join the Illawarra Academy of Sport and receive elite level training through that system. I'd be happy to chat about it further with your friend.
  9. Spirig looks very strong. So does Stanford. hopefully Emma is hanging at the back for tactical reasons.
  10. Its agonising listening to them talk. The most technical so far is the fact that the hill was steep because they are rocking from side to side????
  11. How bad are the commentators! Why can't we have Welchy - or anyone that actually knew about triathlon.
  12. They couldn't find anyone to commentate that actually knows anything about triathlon?
  13. Port Mac Tri on at 12pm today on 7Mate.
  14. Make sure you check the time though. It says 12pm at the moment, not 1pm.
  15. I got overtaken on the run at IMOZ this year by a 'chick' with her arm in a sling. Not sure what you would call that? (apart from a gutsy performance!)
  16. As a first timer I had nothing to compare it to. But it was pretty poor food. Speeches were good. Jason Shortis has always been a legend but how good was his response to the question about what Ironman Oz has done for him ( 2 divorces and bankruptcy). And Matt from Kids Foundation is also a bit of a legend. Got there late and missed the Trannie table. Will see you out there on the run I guess!

    Port bike check in

They check helmet on your way in so you can't really hand the bag in without helmet. I wonder how many have had to go back and get it.
  18. http://www.portnews.com.au/story/3048636/ironman-rain-hail-or-shine/?cs=257 Sounds like Adam Renn doesn't place much faith in the weather forecasters and the possibility of a sharknado. And just when I thought my lack of swim training was a calculated move. But adding a run to start of the ironman - didn't we just have a thread on what ironmen think of duathletes?
  19. Seeing as we now have a rolling start, is there any point having age category markings on our calves anymore? There's no point racing someone if you don't know when they started.
  20. There aren't enough Port threads, so here's a new one. So with the rolling swim start at Port I was wondering what the point of the finish line clock is? Is the clock the usual type that is started with the Pros and may be out by up to 20 minutes or more for each finisher. Or does it have the ability to change with each finisher? What do they do about the 17 hour cut-off - how do they know when 17 hrs is up for those finishing?
  21. Race number 1147. Same as my A target time of 11:47 (which is my brothers first IM time that I am hoping to beat). Hopefully that's an omen!
  22. I'm up at Airlie Beach for a week and am keen to keep the swimming up, given Port is only 3 weeks away. Can anyone recommend the best place for some laps? I assume the lagoon might be okay in the morning, but I was after a decent pool for lap swimming while I am up here. Any suggestions? Thanks!
