Without doubt, the longer distance triathlons are booming and selling out (Ironman WA & Port, Challenge, Husky Long Course) and its ashame that many are missing out on these challenges. With this in mind our team from Elite Energy wish to announce a new long distance event to be held at Forster on 15/16 October 2011. The weekend will be the usual Festival type atmosphere to cater for all levels of age & fitness, with an Olympic Distance and Enticer on the Saturday morning and an Ocean Swim around lunch. The Sunday will be our newest venture in ULTIMATE TRIATHLON - SWIM 2KM / BIKE 120 KM / RUN 20 KM.

With major support from the Great Lakes Council and Community, and the local team of GLITA (Great Lakes International Triathlon Association) this event will ignite the spark left behind from the Ironman days and showcase to the new breed, the feeling of running up the most famous finish chute in Australia. The cousre will take in the historic Ironman course swimming at The Keys, riding part of the old Ironman course and running the streets of the picturesque Forster and the legendary Forster bridge.

So as our summer of 2010/11 slowly closes, put this date in your diary and prepare for a new era in triathlon at the birthplace of Ironman in Australia - Forster - Tuncurry.

PS - dont forget to book your finish line accommodation.

great initiative Emo, been looking for something to plan through winter for and this would be ideal.

Might be worth dredging through the old thread about ressurecting the Forster tri before you finalise details on this one, I felt there was a lot of positive input [none of which was heeded by the organisers] about what people want up there.

Also come a week after Kona [8/10/2011] so everyone will be gee'd up.

Happy to help anyway I can with this one Emo, call me if you think of a role for me.

Soft. Double the swim please.

I will be returning from a 4 week "fries with that" tour of west coast and Hawaii the day of the race so will be unable to attend. Double the swim in 2012 and I'm there with bells on.

Slight clash with Maitland the weekend before. Do I do both or just Forster? Decisions decisions...

My thoughts too, not whether I do Forster (too long for me, although the Oly distance could beckon) but re the Maitland clash. It's the only negative aspect as Maitland is an institution on the calendar for good reason. Will it be able to re-invent itself or just fizzle?

Congrats Emo. Looking forward to it.

Interested in how you came up with those distances. Seems like a foot in each door.

Think I got caught up in all the hype about a new race and forgot about the important things - always support your local races

Maitland will be a definite. Now to decide which distance...

Anyone else planning on doing both long races?

Sounds great - off winter training is always a challenge but love the early season races to be able to race in milder weather.

I agree with the doubling swim distance query (although I am a horrible swimmer) - makes the race more even IMO. But I understand the position a RD has to take to make the race accessible to a wider audience - particularly as a start up race.

Good work Emo - love what EE do.

Tim
