I'm in, first one at Port after 2 at Melbourne.

Training going well, no injuries. A little freaked out there's only 9 weeks to go.

You will find it somewhat different experience compared to Melb

So I've heard! I'm looking forward to it, especially given my last IM Melb I had to pull out after the bike leg.

Really? I was kind of hoping 180w would be about 6hrs. oh well...the time will be whatever the time will be.

Ok I'm being a bit dramatic 180 will get sub 6 high 5 hours depending on how aero you are and how much you hold back through town.

I've found from experience since I got here that a 200w effort on training wheels in training attire would get you anywhere from 30-34kph in the section from golf club to dunbogan.

 

I think the best advice would be that your day won't be "made" on the ride out of or into town.

I'm in - again - I think it's # 15

 

The watts you need for a sub 6hr bike depends on what you weigh mostly - there'll be people ranging from 52kg up to 100kg doing the same race over the same terrain :smile1:

 

Also I have found that aero dynamics and pedalling technique affects average power in two different athletes of the same body weight and race time :shocking: I wouldn't get too hyped up on what average power you're going to aim for

 

Train with power - improve your average power over the same test courses - then on race day don't even think about power figures - you should be trained to ride efficiently in the weeks leading up to the race so that you can simply race :scared:

 

There's far too much thinking going on in the age group field :shy:

All things being equal for a ~5h30m, whether you're 60 or 80kg, you will need about the same amount of power to ride within 5-10mins of each other.

spend all that time improving testing using power, then don't even think about it? sounds like underthinking

I'll decide by the end of the week, if I can hit a couple of targets will then start worrying about accommodation. Could be the tent like 2009.
